Oh, for a time turner of my own . . .
Sep. 18th, 2006 09:23 pmI am an IDIOT.
Tonight was the reception for Minnesota writers, including me, that were being honored by the endowed chairs in the auditorium of the new Minneapolis library, that I mentioned in this entry here. I was invited as one of the honorees. I had RSVPd that I intended to come.
And tonight, the woman who kindly had donated the money for the chair in my honor called to say, we missed you at the reception tonight. Oh, my god. The girls were both sick today, and when I got home from work, I was dealing with weeping offspring, and . . . and I forgot about it totally. I missed the reception entirely. She was very nice about it when I explained, and we made plans to get together later--she's a friend from graduate school.
But still . . .
Rob, of course, could not be counted on to remind me. Our household operates on the principle that it is Peg who remembers everything. It was on the calendar, but I just spaced it out entirely. I am shocked at myself. It is so rare for me to make a mistake like this.
I feel just sick about this.
