Same here: meeting SF writers at cons went a long way to demystifying *W*R*I*T*E*R*S* (I am tempted to look for the HTML code that will make that flash, but I'm only halfway through my morning tea, so I suspect it's a bad idea). So did getting my first stories published and realizing that no great cloak of magesty had come down from the skies: the laundry still needed to be done, I still had to brush my teeth, and all that.
