[livejournal.com profile] msavi pointed out that of the ten people on her friends list who posted about the title of book 7, eight used cut tags out of sensitivity for spoilers.

I am unreasonably amused by this. It didn't even occur to me to put the title behind a cut-tag. I hate spoilers, of course (see the icon), but seriously, what's up with that? A book's title? I mean . . . are people thinking that they can somehow hide from knowing what this book is going to be called before it's released? When this book is going to be going through the marketing blitz of the century? Seriously?

Er, sorry if I spoiled it for you.

I am just so fucking sick of people who have all-out conniption fits over the TINIEST scrap of detail when it comes to HP that I just stuck it behind a cut, to keep the spoiler-nazis happy.

The funny thing is that an hour ago I got an email from Borders.com saying OMG HP 7!!!111 and it had a huge graphic with the title in it. So I hope none of the insane ones are subbed to Borders emails.

*laughs* Yeah, first I appreciated the cut tags (in principle - I wanted to know the title, myself), but then realized it was going to be all over the news before the sun set, so what was the point? As you said - it's just a title, nothing plotty.

(I will say, though, that I don't want to know anything INSIDE the book.)

Imho, once a title has made it into 500 news articles on google news, in the title of those articles, it doesn't get spoiler-protection-worries anymore.

Personally, I would have used a cut for the first day just because it's fun doing the whole puzzle thing to figure it out.

Book 7 is the last one, right?

Yes.

Part of me is sad about that. The other part is thanking God because the craziness, about these books anyway, will end.

I must admit, my second thought on seeing your post was "Oooh, no, I wonder how long before some person with lots of moral outrage and no sense has a fit because there's no cut tag?"

My first thought, of course, was "You must be kidding-- the Big Showdown had better not happen on Halloween!"

I absolutely agree. I haven't checked, but if it isn't on the AP wire already, or wasn't within 5 minutes of being posted, I'd be shocked.

This is the perfect example of taking the spoiler thing way to far. There is no way in hell anyone will be able to escape the title of the book. It's ridiculous to even suggest it would be. Not that you were suggesting that, of course. But, really, I can't imagine anyone trying to justify qualifying this as a spoiler.

I think the concern among my flisters was the way in which Jo revealed the books title. Figuring out the puzzle, playing the hangman game, et all. ::shrug::

I found out this morning when a friend called me from work, squeeing with giddy delight. I'm just surprised at how insane people are getting over the tiniest bit of news these days. The comments in her recent diary entry about Dan and her dream are sending people into hair-tearing fits of ecstasy. It's absolutely bonkers. I imagine people are using cuts as a tool of self-preservation as much as out of any sensitivity, heh.

Meh, it's a TITLE - it's not like it gives anything away. I wouldn't have put it under a cut-tag either.

Now I just want to know the release date! I'm MUCH more interested in that than in the title.

That's it. *sniffle* I'm never speaking to you again because you spoiled the book's freakin' title!

I think that may be all that it is; someone else on my flist just posted that 'the door is open' and if you play hangman you get the title of book #7, so I think some folk just wanted to go play it themselves. /shrug

As an illread heathen I can't say that I care overly much. At this point, I think I'm going to wait until #7 is out in paperback, and then buy and read the entire series to get it over with :p
