My attorney gave me a tape to transcribe. When I popped it into the machine and started listening to it on my headphones, I realized that he had meant me to transcribe the other side of the tape.

On this side of the tape, I realized, he had given his dictaphone recorder to his three-year old son to play with, and I was treated to a sweet innocent voice singing the A-B-C song for me.

Nice treat for a Monday morning.

I bet he'd love it if you transcribed that for him!

What [livejournal.com profile] jbru said: I would have transcribed it and given it to him with a straight face.

And bound on that journey, you find your attorney,
who started that morning from Devon.
He's a bit undersized, and you don't feel surprised
when he tells you he's only eleven three.

Just checking, did you see my earlier post on Code Monkey videos? Had you seen any of those yet?

Had to look it up; Iolanthe. It sure seemed to be a G&S patter song, but I couldn't place which one.

Relating a night of restless dreams in a patter song is -- well, those guys were brilliant. "By the by, the ship's now a four-wheeler".

They had rhythm, they had humor, they had lyrics, who could ask for anything more?

Though I've always thought the "first take off his boots with a boot-tree" bit was too much of a strain for the sake of a rhyme.
