I am the ONLY morning person in our household. What this means practically is that just about every morning, as I'm putting on my makeup, I am yelling out to the others, "Are you up yet?"

Today, I posed the traditional morning question. From Fiona in the girls' room came, "Define 'up.'"

"Dressed and moving in a forward direction."

"Um [long pause] . . . I'm moving diagonally. Does that count?"
'
I cracked up as Fiona continued: "'Diagonal' has a little bit of 'forward' in it."

"Define 'up.'"

Yeah, R typically uses it to mean "conscious enough to answer you."

yeah, I'd have expected "define moving" next and/or "define forward"... mostly because I've never been a morning person; I suspect you're going through what my mother went through with me.

"non-horizontal" was one of my answers... not saying how far from horizontal though...

argh. mornings.

(also argh. insomnia.)

Oh dear, that sounds very much like something I might have said when younger. None of us are really morning people but about half way through secondary school I learned to reply to "are you up" in my sleep so that the quesstion had to be "are you up and answer in a coherent sentence please".

I'm intrigued as to how she was moving diagonally though!

Hee! She's got a point.

Signed, not a morning person either.

Ah, geometric existentialism in the morning. I'm not awake enough for this discussion...

Lovely. I must remember that one.

I love the smell of geometric existentialism in the morning ? Nah, I probably wouldn't even recognise it until I've got enough caffeine in, by which point it's unlikely to still count as morning either by the clock or in the practical sense of "have not had first meal yet".

Problem is, I can be conscious enough to give every appearance of carrying out a coherent conversation quite a bit before enough of my brain is online to remember anything.

I agree that it's a problem, because that's the case with her, too! She has had entire conversations, gone back to sleep, and later had no memory of it. (Method #587 of Driving Your Parents Insane.)

"Define 'up.'"

That's exactly what my response was to my parents, back in the day. * grins broadly *
