I have finished Naomi Novik's His Majesty's Dragon and it is only by exerting severe self-control that I am not diving into the second volume.

I told Kij I keep hearing Eloise's voice in my head (like in Eloise in Paris, the way she says, "There are several hotels in Paris.") Only she is saying, "There are several bicyclists in Seattle."

I want to go climbing again, damn it. This, of course, is madness. I would fall off the wall on the third handhold if I tried.

We ate picnic-style for dinner and finished off the last of the truffle honey I gave Kij the last time we got together.

I have played the evil seducer and discovered that Kij's cat, Hestia, likes brie cheese. She is licking her chops even now.

My daughter is also reading His Majesty's Dragon right now and recommending it to her friends' list.

Peg--The Temeraire books are wonderful! Book #2 kicks things up a notch for Book #3. I'm glad you enjoyed the first book.

i liked the first book very much but felt that the series lagged significantly in the 2nd and 3rd. i am holding out hope for a jump start in book 4.

*nods* The second one does lag a bit, and I remember wanting more from it. I enjoyed it, but I thought Novik could have done more with it.

I read about HMD in Locus. I should pick it up - sounds fascinating!

I love Eloise. Did you ever hear the song? I found it on the internet one day. ("Who is the little girl who lives at the Plaza in New York? That's me, Eloise, I'm six. I live on the top floor.")

I just finished it too! Did you cry for Levitas? (I got very teary in public but managed not to sob.)

I'm borrowing #2 from a friend in book group, which isn't until Saturday, but I expect to dive into it headfirst.

"I want to go climbing again, damn it.

Well, what you'll have to try is prairie climbing...

(OMG! I finally figured how to remember to spell "prairie" correctly! Got it right on the first try! HA, I DA' MAN!!!)
