Gallbladder

Just got back from the E.R. Woke up at 2:00 a.m. with a full-blown gall bladder flare up. Rob took me to the hospital this morning. Ultrasound confirmed, yep, gallstones (at least two of them, about 3/4 inch in length), and one is jammed in at the narrow end of the gall bladder, probably blocking the duct somewhat, although there isn't any signs of backup or infections, so they don't have to operate immediately.

Still, enough is enough. I've gone several rounds like this, and I'm not willing to do it anymore.

They sent me home with prescriptions for major drugs, for the pain (Percoset, yay!) and nausea (I've been throwing up). Just have to tough it out until Tuesday, when the surgeon will take it out.

*staggers back to bed*

Oh Peg. It just doesn't end, does it? With all your stress, I'm not surprised your body is rebelling. Best wishes for safe, uncomplicated surgery and a speedy recovery. How long will you be hospitalized?

*hugs*

If they do it laparoscopically - which I assume they are, since it's scheduled and not emergency - it's usually day surgery, she might have to stay overnight. I had mine out that way over ten years ago - Friday morning surgery, they would have let me out Friday evening except I threw up as they were taking me out of recovery, so I stayed overnight. Back at work on Monday, with instructions to not carry any computer parts around for two weeks.

Let me know if there's anything useful I can do, driving the girls to whatsit or picking up the whosis from the cleaners or what have you.

Yay drugs.

Ouch! Well, I doubt you'll have to worry much about lifestyle changes because of it - from what I've read, you seem to be doing a pretty good job of controlling your fat intake already, and if you slip up and have a whole lot at once anyway, the results are ... slimy but not disastrous.

oh Peg, that's awful! it's never a good time for this to happen, but I hope that your surgery isn't too awful and that you recover quickly. (and that the drugs can tide you through in the meantime, very important.) I'll send good thoughts your way!

(((hugs)))

Had mine out a little less than a year ago. You'll feel ever so much better without it.

Oh, noes!

I hope you have a quick surgery and speedy recovery.

My MIL had the surgery and she said it was a surprisingly fast recovery and she felt better right away; I wish the same for you.

Oh no, my poor Pegster. *cuddles gently*

At least you got the GOOD drugs. Yum. And they'll take it out, and all will be well. That's how I see it with my impending GERD surgery.

Get well soon, dear.

Oh, dear, gallstones are awful.

However, if you're having the surgery done laparoscopically, it should be pretty easy; I had mine out several years ago, and I didn't even bother to stay overnight in the hospital.

Best wishes!

Aieeee. My first thought was, just what you didn't need.

On the other hand, everybody I know who has talked to me about zir gall-bladder surgery has expressed enormous surprise at how much better they felt even before recovery from the surgery could start. So may you have that blessing.

Best wishes for a trouble-free surgery and swift recovery!

At least the pain has an easily-identified, and easily-dealt-with, cause; I wish you rapid healing.

Yes, it will be a laparscopic procedure. I hope it will be pretty simple--I've talked with my sister, who had it done, and it was pretty straightforward for her. I won't be able to bike or even drive for awhile, though; I won't know how long until I talk with the surgeon's office on Monday when I set up the time.

Ouch! I had that a couple of years ago. I had no idea what was making me sick until they found the stones. After the surgery, I felt much better.

Hope things get better for you!
