Really, I'm trying to be patient. I realize you've been through a lot in the past week and a half, and after all, I must give you due credit: you've never been particularly temperamental toward me in the past. I appreciate that. Since you are feeling particularly fretful today, please accept this bowl of very bland oatmeal in the spirit in which it is given. I don't mind coddling you for the moment, however . . .

Please appreciate my point of view. I have a rather busy life to lead. I have places to go and things to do. It would be extremely helpful if you would, er, try to temper your testiness in the very near future. If I continue to coddle you through the weekend, do you think you could please consider pulling up your metaphorical socks and start adhering more closely to your job description (digesting my food without trouble or complaint) sometime, oh, perhaps early next week? For me?

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours,
Peg

Birchwood Cafe has really, really good teas. Surely one of those will appease your temperamental tummy. ;-)

I would add something about having more patience with the process, but I think you've heard enough of that to get the idea. Enjoy Birchwood, but please don't tempt fate with a giant bowl of chili.

I know others have said this, but recovery takes time. I had hernia surgery a few years back. Took a month before I felt almost normal.

Oh, and the doctor had me stay off the bicycle for over a month. I assume you've been warned about that.

I totally sympathize with you....I was exactly the same way in 2000. Hang in there...this too shall pass.

After my hubby's gallbladder was taken out, he avoided any kind of oil/fat for quite a while. I forget if that was on doc's orders or not.
Did your doc give you any temporary diet restrictions?

You do realize that your digestive system will never be the same again, don't you?

No restrictions were mentioned, but my diet is quite low fat anyway. It seems to be a much more general hissy fit. I didn't have any appetite for my planned lunch (a leftover stir fry of low fat pork and bell peppers, served over rice) at all.

I've heard varying reports from people who've had this particular surgery. Some had no problems afterwards at all; others had trouble digesting fats. I am hoping this is temporary. My diet is quite low fat anyway.

that sounds about right, I have that problem, but it is kind of strange. Things that never gave me problem before, now are terrible. Unfortunately its not just fat as in fatty, unhealthy food, in some cases its stuff that shouldnt be a problem. you pretty much will have to give it time till you know what is bad for you or not and try to avoid it. I've developed a milk alergy that the doctor said could be related to that, its pretty strange. Just be patient, your body has to adapt to a whole new set of rules now...
*hugs*

Unless you have been told not to by a medical professional, I'd recommend trying probiotics. I don't expect your intestinal flora are very happy after all the upset. Maybe plain yoghurt with live cultures wouldn't be too hard to get down even without an appetite.

I second the yogurt -- and I'd vote for something low-sugar, too, like the Redwood Hill goat yogurt. I love their vanilla and blueberry (although I've never had to watch additives in those, so not sure what the actual extras are in their stuff -- I don't trust yogurts with artifical sweetners in them.) You want active cultures. Redwood Hill does make plain yogurt -- you could add your own fruit or sweetner. I used to make banana and honey -- no seeds to worry about that way.

My doctor told me a week, but I didn't believe him. I figured I'd wait at least three weeks, when the carrying weight restriction is lifted, because I pack more than ten pounds on the bike when I commute anyhow.
