The weather is absolutely gorgeous.

I have hung this picture of the girls at our beautifully decorated table above my desk where I can see it every day. (Edited to add: Note the screensaver they put on the computer monitor in the background.)

I have had OMG EXACTLY THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF CAFFEINE.

My bangs are sticking straight up. Oddly enough, with this haircut, that looks perfect, as if they have had exactly the right amount of caffeine, too.

I am getting a free buffet lunch today.

Even though Rob has been without a job for several months, we are still managing to pay all our bills.

New wizard rock on my iPod.

Someone has told me something that has made me very happy.

Tell me something that makes you happy today, too.

I am about to spend this weekend with some of the awesomest people I know.

Your caffeinated bangs are making me oddly happy, too.

I have a new garage door, and when I push the button in my car, it goes up and down!

(when we bought the house, the garage door was in pieces on the gravel driveway)

My garden has started to bear fresh tomatoes and it's a gloriously beautiful (if hot) day in Northern California.

We have cake, with the good frosting, in the break room, and the fridge is freshly stocked with pop. I shipped a huge case today and finally cleared my desk, and I got a really interesting new assignment that--for once--isn't a rush. Today is a good day.

I was terrified leaving my old job with nothing new on the plate.

Within four days of starting this new position, the following has happened:
- numerous compliments from my boss and bosses boss about my aesthetic taste (gold to a designer)
- I've enjoyed the work so much I forgot lunch AND forgot to go home on Monday
- they're paying me more and I still get a 37.5 hour week
- Now that I'm in my proper cube, I have a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and sun every day.

It was the right decision. Big time.

I am taking an unscheduled day off, simply because the weather is gorgeous. All of the windows are thrown open, and in a great burst of energy, I have made the house neat and clean. I have a bunch of teenage boys coming over soon, and they will tease me unmercifully while eating my food and calling me "mom," and later I will take my beautiful daughter out to find some clothes for her first day of high school. Life will soon be overwhelming again, but for now it is GOOD! I agree with [livejournal.com profile] awelkin, it's all about the weather.

The weather is great here, too.

I'm happy because tomorrow night is boardgaming night. I'm happy because I'm looking forward to seeing many wonderful people next weekend in Montreal, and eating much sushi. I'm happy because chocolate coated Altoids are crack. I'm happy because I've seen more than one happy-making post on my flist today, and knowing that other people are happy makes me happy.

I'm happy because I've found an external force that I can leverage into getting me out of my no-new-reading rut, and I've run through two great books in the past week and am crunching my way into a third today.

I got my new emergency backup glasses and I LOVE them. And then I found the old emergency backup glasses that I had thought I lost, and I still love them, too.

I am spending the weekend at the Shinto shrine's guest house working on classwork, and that's going to be great, too.

I love that picture. They both look so excited and happy.

As for happy, today we are having new windows (hurricane-ready ones, no less!) installed, and replacing the vintage '73 jalousie windows we had. Calloo callay!

I'll post about it more in my own LJ later but - I found out Two may qualify for a new pre-K program, which would provide her with full-time, M-F preschool for FREE. Okay, it's not a guarantee she'll get accepted, but it's still made me and Will very happy to even contemplate it.

Also, if my health holds up, I won't have to go back to the gastro for six months.

It's the third day in a row that my company has provided me free lunch. Tuesday was a lunch out ostensibly to welcome a new writer, but also to say goodbye to two writers. Yesterday was a boring lunch meeting. Today was a fun Italian festival thrown by one of the other departments, and they remembered to get a totally awesome vegetarian lasagna. And plenty of garlic bread. I'm full and happy.

What makes me happy today is that *you* are happy and as a result posted this, which prompted the rest of us to look around and see what is good in our lives today. The whole rest of my day will be colored by noticing what makes me happy, which is a lovely gift!

Muscadine grapes are in season! Their time is so short, but it's always tasty.

And I'm working from home today, so I get to eat them and get the juice all over my fingers and spit the seeds out unceremoniously into the trashcan without worrying about the coworker factor. *grin*

I had not noticed that the girls had changed the screensaver until I looked closer at this picture today. Look close if you missed it too.

The exact paint we chose for the girls room went on sale today. Woo Hoo!

Yes, I did see that! I just forgot to mention it in my post.

Hurrah! How many cans are we going to get? Did they finally agree on the color of the trim? Last I heard, that was still up in the air.

Before we buy, I recommend you go dig that book out of the basement on using color in the home; its in the non-fiction stack. It would probably give lots of help/advice about choosing color and what goes together well. I'll dig it out tonight if you can't find it.

Today what makes me happy is that I overcame inertia and laziness and made myself go for a walk with my dogs. It was a very nice one and we all enjoyed it.

It also makes me happy that *you* are happy and are requesting to hear about happy stuff from others, which is spreading the happy vibes around.

I got new jeans, which fit better than the old pair (which ripped anyway) and were cheaper than the old pair, and finally found a pair of running shoes that fit (properly!) and were (marginally) within my budget.

Also, my boyfriend has been on vacation since Wednesday and will be through Monday. :)

This post makes me happy, actually. In other news, I just had a huge plot breakthrough, wherein the random stuff I'd scattered around the first part of the book rose up and took on form. That's a huge relief. I was afraid that it wouldn't. Also I just had a date with Eric, and when I came home Raphael had put new shelf paper in the upstairs kitchen and I had a nice conversation with David. And the weather is just glorious. I think my goldenrod might bloom after all.

Things were a bit hectic this morning, so Cole and I stepped out to wait for the school bus, and to talk a bit. For some reason I looked over my back, and there were the waining moon, hanging over the barn not looking like the moon, but looking round.

I'm glad

I heard from my sweetie last night (he's in Nippon, I'm not).

The weather is cooling so the first weekend of RenFest won't be beastly hot.

I learned how to play Ticket to Ride and made new friends courtesy my dear friend Star. It's a fun game, I could become an addict.

and this thread. I needed a serious cheering-up, thanks Peg!

After knowing [livejournal.com profile] kiwiria online for something like 10 years, I got to meet her in person in Copenhagen last week. She showed us around her city and fed us dinner, so we got to meet her husband Lars too (and dinner was tasty as well - our first turkey since leaving the US, because apparently it's common in Denmark though nearly unknown in the Netherlands). Aaaaaand she loaned me her copy of Emerald House Rising! That turned out to be especially nice , as just yesterday I got an email in which Amazn finally admitted they weren't going to be able to find me one. I finished it within two days (I don't normally read that much on vacation but somehow my husband took a nap and ended up crashing for 15 hours) and as of today have gotten to a post office and sent the book back home to Denmark. I liked it a lot.
