Rob thinks he has finally FINALLY solved the wireless connection problem on my computer. It's still in his TV room, but I hope it will be moved back to my office in the next two or three days. We have to get all the girls' crap out of my office first. You can't even get into my office.

Rob had a friend come over to lend some testosterone to the bedroom rearrangement project. I am sure that at certain points this afternoon poor Mark may very well wondered what he was getting into. One last minute hitch: we discovered that each girl was under the impression that she was going to get the coveted bed position against the eastern wall, by the window, and there was much Angst! and Drama! while this critical point was thrashed out. I told Rob that, after all, he had gone through mediator training this week and he should consider this his first assignment. He told me ruefully partway through the whole process that the girls sure didn't want his mediation. At various points this afternoon, one could hear furniture being shoved around upstairs--and the front door slamming as someone or other had stalked off in a rage.

At one point or another today, every single member of the family had yelled at each other member of the family and/or burst into tears. But the bunk beds are separated and the room is rearranged. They will be sleeping in their beds for the first time in over three weeks (a fact which was celebrated with some serious bed-jumping, which, of course, was impossible when the beds were in the bunk configuration.)

Now they have to retrieve all the junk spread all over my office and figure out how to get it back into their room so that I can get my office back.

Fiona did. I don't know how this was determined, and it would probably not be wise to ask.

I think you're wise

not to ask. I think my (6-year-younger) sister was resentful when I got my big brother's more private upstairs dormer room (big, back 1/2 of roof dormer on a 1970s era nice home) because I got my own bathroom.

On the other hand, my 9-10 year-old self got scared nearly to wet my bed because a lightning strike hit the bathroom standpipe and fried the circuit box (<1" from said stand pipe). Next morning dad went, "Well, i wanted a circuit breaker rather than a fuse box anyway," and hired an electrician. (it actually melted parts of the fuse box.)

This'll teach me not to skim blog entries! I glanced at this one and read, "Rob had a friend come over to lend some testosterone to the bedroom..."

We had a similar room disagreement between my daughters when we moved into our current house. Although they would each get their own room of approximately the same size, there was much fury & debate about who would get the bedroom on the main level. I told my older daughter that she could have first dibs, because her sister had enjoyed a much larger room in our old place. But Daughter 1 was curiously reluctant to announce a decision...puzzlingly so, since both girls had said the upstairs room was "better."

Finally I pressed her about it, and she confessed that her sister had threatened to never speak to her again if she took the upstairs room.

Daughter 1 got the upstairs room. Daughter 2 got a lecture about blackmail.
