I do not appreciate in the least the tantrum you are having. I have things to do today, and I do not have time to pamper you to the degree you obviously expect to be pampered. Yes, you would prefer it if I spent the day in bed, breathing air from a humidfier, but that is simply not an option. R. is out of the office and so I have to be there to shepherd that Eighth Circuit appellate brief through the serving/filing process. Tough luck. Suck it up and deal.

I will continue to offer you cough drops and cups of tea until my kidneys are ready to float away. I also promise to have chicken soup at lunchtime. In return, I expect you to do your damned job instead of making my life difficult.

No love.

Me.

I really, really recommend Mucinex if you're having phlegm issues.

As a distraction - [livejournal.com profile] lupinslittlesis posted this low-fat mushroom soup recipe recently, and I just tried it today. It's wonderful. Definitely a Just-For-Peg dish, but I thought perhaps you might like to give it a try yourself, especially as weather turns colder. Not hard to make, and not too pricey, either. There's also a recipe for go-along turnovers, but I haven't tried those since I can't eat them. (As a side note: for the soup, I substituted plain yogurt for the half-and-half and merlot for the sherry to avoid "illegal" ingredients, but I also thought I'd mention it because it goes to show that the soup is a little bit flexible, for what you have on hand.)

Definitely halve the recipe, though, if you're only cooking for yourself.

Hope you feel better soon. Is this a cold/allergy issue, or asthma? I agree that Mucinex works wonders on general Guck, but I can't tell if that's your trouble, or constricted airways. Ugh, either way.

It feels like the same kind of virus that gives babies croup. A tight cough, worse in mornings and evenings. Painful, and not very productive.

I read sometime last year that theobromine, the chemical in chocolate, acts as a cough suppressant (and works as well as codeine to suppress a cough). I tried this out on my next cold and it works. Use dark chocolate (you'd have to eat waaaaaaaaaay more milk chocolate). I found that about four ounces was effective and the cough suppressant effect lasted for several hours.

I don't think they've studied it in combination with Robitussin DM or other standard over-the-counter cough stuff, but I figure, it's chocolate. If it killed you in combination with any common over-the-counter medication, women would be falling dead all over the place and we'd have seen the warnings in the newspapers by now.

Worse, actually. I'm home from work today, feverish and croaky. I hope I lick this soon.
