Do you know how McCain feels on women's reproductive issues? The truth may surprise you:

For people who don't have the patience to follow You-Tube links: McCain is and always has been adamantly opposed to not only abortion but to any kind of federal funding for birth control or family planning. His positions on these issues, like most issues, are identical to George W. Bush. Do not mistake McCain for a "moderate" just because he isn't a fulminating right-wing nut job.

Incidentally, I almost NEVER follow You-Tube links. I wish that people who post them in their journals with little or no explanation would give a summary of what's in there. I only followed this one so I could write a summary for other link-lazy folks like myself. I think it is very very important that we get the word out before November what McCain actually stands for! Thanks, Peg. Keep it up!

Ditto on the YouTube links and the wish that people would post summaries or links to transcripts or something.

I think a lot of people assume that McCain must be a moderate on social issues because that would explain why the fundamentalists dislike him so much. FWIW, that's not it.

I'll sometimes click on videos if I'm at a computer with audio and have time to watch, but I usually read via my cell phone, so I agree, summaries would be useful to have if I can't watch the video.

Without looking at the video, I'm of the definite impression that he would like to make contraception illegal again.

I don't know why anyone thinks that he is moderate on social issues.

I don't think he wants to make contraception illegal; he just doesn't want government to pay for it. The effect is pretty much the same, though. Even though he claims to be dedicated to stopping abortion he opposes the most effective way to do that - taking effective steps to cut down on unplanned pregnancies.

I'm actually not surprised at all. This is the man who, when asked on national television if condoms reduced the risk of STIs, said, "You've stumped me." Whether he was actually that ignorant or merely didn't want to upset some people who might vote for him is unclear, but sheesh.

Thanks! I confess, I've always thought old "Walnuts!" was a moderate on social issues, just following the party line on the war--not surprising there. Guess I bought into the PR.

Anyway, one more reason to elect PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!

NOTE TO ANYONE ELSE READING THIS: Please feel free to copy my President Obama icon and use it. ;-) Spread the meme!

I can't see the YouTube stuff either, thanks to the commenters who explained. I still wish for Hillary, but won't vote against Obama.
