Fiona finally cleared out her backpack today and passed something on to me that I found quite amusing: imagine what would happen if an English teacher got a hold of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

(Click on it three times to see it close up.)

In other news, I passionately want to rip out my lungs. My family is trying to dissuade me, telling me that I need them. My response is that they are absolutely no use to me right now and in fact are driving me crazy.

Hmm. I guess I'll hold on to 'em now, at least until I finish this cup of tea and see whether that allows me to sleep.

Feverish. I hope I don't have to go into work tomorrow--unless there is some snafu with that order for an extension we're expecting from the Court and I have to go in to do a filing after all, hacking away.

LULz for Lincoln...I wonder if [livejournal.com profile] pennswoods was the teacher with the red quill o' death? X)

Hope you feel better soon!

Hm, it's a funny illustration, but of course the meanings of a lot of words have changed just that much in the last 150 years to make the comments incorrect. You know, it's like training your ear for British English or something, if you read a lot of books of the era referencing primary sources, eventually you begin to hear those meanings without effort, so maybe I'm a little biased as it's a preferred period for my non-fiction audiobook purchases.

*snork* Is that a handout she got as an exercise of some kind, or did she do the "correcting" herself?

Were you able to find a Neti pot? I hope it starts to help you soon, and that you can stay home and rest today.

It came from her teacher like that.

I did find the Neti pot and I used it last night. It's quite easy to use. I imagine it's going to take a few days of treatments (and with the inhaler too) before my system settles down. My body seems to be having a real hissy fit. I was feverish last night, and my glands in my throat are quite swollen today.

Hahah. If that wasn't written as a satirical critique of the public school system, educational guidelines, and the occasional evil English teacher, I think I'd be peeved. Speech writing is an entirely different art from English lang or lit, and in any event, the alliteration and repetition etc. are very effective tools.

Thank God I am done with high school.

I'm having problems with allergies now, too, but because I've got my Advair prescription it's just sneezing, not a generalized problem with breathing. I took some Claritin this morning and I'm already starting to feel better, but yesterday I sometimes had sneezing jags that lasted for dozens of sneezes at a time and I was going through tissues like crazy.

And now my pastor (and boss) is going through something similar to when I started evincing asthma symptoms. What is it about living here that eventually does this to a person? It's happened to her a lot faster than to me, though; she's been here for about ten years now and I had lived here all of my life before, at 40, I started having asthma symptoms. Without my medication I can barely function; with it I'm just fine. Don't put it off, Peg! Go see the doctor and get what you need ASAP!

I've dealt with it; I started the Advair yesterday. I think it's going to be a day or two for it to get to a therapeutic level. I've started using a Neti pot, and hope that'll help, too. I'm staying home from work today, just to take it easy.

Oh, possible usefulness, and pretty cheap, too!

Rather than a neti pot, the last time Ben (my husband) went to the VA to have his ongoing sinus ick evaluated, the NP recommended using a sinus flush system from NeilMed. Here: http://www.neilmed.com/usa/products.php#sinusrinse

He's had drastic improvement. He used to wake up every morning just feeling vile from a night's worth of accumulated post-nasal drip, and now it's all gone. He's actually contemplating calling off the sinus surgery, because it's just so much better in just a week of rinsing.

Out of curiosity, when did alliteration become a problem? I don't recall this being called out when I was in school.
