I know that [livejournal.com profile] jbru, [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K. and [livejournal.com profile] davidschroth are already doing the challenge.

Who else is doing it already, or is going to start? [livejournal.com profile] kiwiria, [livejournal.com profile] aome (I think???) and [livejournal.com profile] irinaauthor. Anybody else? Leave a comment!

Go, Team Pushups! Go, go, go!

I am, but I have never posted publicly about my personal goals, and I'm sure I won't start now. The majority of my LJ posts are marked "Private (just me)"

Go, Team Pushups!

I did the test the night that you first posted about this, but I really need to improve my trunk strength first -- I'm doing 6 weeks of daily core calisthenics, and will start the pushups protocol on October 1.

Rooting for all of you!

After 6 1/2 weeks of working on the pushup challenge, I am finally in the 3rd week of the program. I've gone from doing 2 pushups in a row to being able to manage 20 without stopping! It's amazing!

Yep - I'm on Week 2 this week (though I haven't done W2 D1 yet today - hopefully once the girls have rest time). I decided to do knee pushups, so I'm in the mid-level as well, same as you. It still feels like cheating in a way, but I know I can do a better job overall, and maybe once I'm that much stronger I can continue with regular pushups. At the end of W1 D3, my maximum was 17! :)

Oh, what the heck. I could use the challenge, both at sticking with something and at strengthening my core. I'm doing knee push-ups. I can do regular, but I get barely any movement out of it, so I think my form will actually be better with doing knees.

2, 2, 2, 2, (11). Hmm. When I did the initial test, I collapsed after three. But when I did the first day, two in a row felt really easy, and I was surprised I managed to do 11. The middle column looks too difficult to me, though. Maybe I'll split the difference.

I'm going to try this. I think it might be good for my wrist as well as my strength. Unfortunately, I will be starting at level one; I'll blame it on the wrist.

Yes, you can! Check the website, which suggests alternatives if you can't manage classic pushups (from the toes). You can do knuckle pushups if you have difficulties with your wrists, or you can do pushups from the knees or even wall pushups if you don't have enough arm/core strength. If you can do as little as one pushup, you can still improve your strength over the course of six weeks. So are you in? Let me know!

I read the site and did the modified pushup from the knees. I did 12!!! So I'm in.

I can't figure out how to read the week1 list. I don't know how many to do actually.

Okay, go to the column for Week One. You did 12 pushups, that puts you in the third column.

On the first day, you do 12, rest 60 seconds, 12, rest 60 seconds, 10, rest 60 seconds, 10, rest 60 seconds, then you do as many as you can do (at least 7).

Rest a day.

Then you go to the chart for Day Two and follow the third column again, this time resting 90 seconds between reps: 12, 12, 10, 10, then as many as you can do (at least 10)

Rest a day

Then you go to the chart for Day Three and again follow the third column, etc.

Hope this helps.

thanks for posting about this -- it's a great idea, and clearly something I should try since my initial test was 0 for good-form, knee, and bench methods (and I have no outstanding physical reason preventing me other than 42 years of not doing push ups). I was able to do a few when I tried bench@knee before my pecs packed it in. I'm thinking I may stay stick with week 1 until I can graduate to the good form.
