I have to admit that I'm reading it and loving it. Albus in America? I was wondering what had happened to him. And all the others. Quite fascinating to see what various characters are up to and how this little change has made everything skewed in just the right wonky way. So much fun to read!
I'm reading, and I really enjoy it, although Hermione having to work in the library and not take classes is breaking my heart. And Dumbledore in America? SCORE!!
I somewhat wish that hpalternity would friend itself, though, as when reading it I keep going back and forth between it and its friends page, trying to interpolate correctly. And I think there must be some friends-only posts that I'm missing?
Though it seems that my first wild theory (that the "Regulus" journal was Sirus's cover identity) has been well and truly scuppered.
I'd like to continue reading; I hope I shall have the time.
Yes, that is frustrating us, that hpalternity posts don't appear on the friends page, too. We're trying to figure out a way around that but haven't come up with one yet. if you find an answer for it, let us know.
Some of the story is going on in the comments, but other than that, the only "friends only" conceit we are using is that only order members can read posts that are marked "Order Only." Bill Weasley is running the journals for the ministry and this is a magical "back door" code he gave to McGonagall.
Also, if you choose a character and read THEIR friends page, their own posts and all the others' all appear on that page. Why people can friend themselves, but communities can't, I'll never understand.
We think we found a solution! A journal has been set up called alt_player, which we will use on the occasions whenever we want to respond anonymously to questions at the alt_fen community. Anyway, it has been set so that it has friended hpalternity, alt_fen, and all the journals. A custom reading group has also been set up on that account, with hpalternity, all the journals, but without alt_fen.
So, if you want to read everything (including alt_fen, the fan discussion group), read the alt_player's friends list here.
If you want to read just the game, without the alt_fen posts interspersed, read the custom reading group here.
That way, you only have to bookmark one (or both, if you like) links, and you can visit whenever you like and see everything you want to see. Hope this helps!
I think it's neat (and I blogged about it -- http://gameshelf.jmac.org/2008/09/another-forum-game.html). I've been taking a look every couple of days.
I am curious how much you have worked out in advance, how much is being invented as you go, and how this ratio will change over time. I don't expect that curiosity to be satisfied until 2015, of course. :)
Reading and enjoying. I'm a bit confused about who can read the journals though. The 'order only' stuff is clear, but I'm surprised at what some people are putting in there if they really know that everyone can read it including Lucius and the 'Lord Protector' (What a LOADED title for you all to pick for Voldie) for example Lupin's most recent post.
