Make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin's name. And here's the good part: when you make a donation to PP in her name, they'll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor! You can make a donation for as little as $5.00!

Here's the link to the Planned Parenthood website: https://secure.ga0.org/02/pp10000_inhonor

You'll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the "in Sarah Palin's honor" card.

McCain/Palin for President
1235 S. Clark Street
1st Floor
Arlington, VA 22202

Feel free to pass this on.

I don't understand: what's the point? She believes in contraception.

Maybe. At least for married women.

She is, however, clearly anti-choice.

Planned Parenthood is also a significant resource of sexual education and information, thus it is a message of supporting that tenet vs. Palin's abstinence-only education stance.

Eh, I don't think she's abstinence only. Just for *public* schools, that's all.

But I don't want to set up as her defender any further. Just clarifying a point.

Conversation is always good! And I'm sure others may have had the same thoughts, but didn't express them, so it's good to have both sides.

What a lovely idea! I'll have to wait until I get home from work to implement it, though.

How petty and spite full, but what I pretty much expect of people nowadays. I fully expect there are people out there giving money to the KKK in Obama's name.

Whatever happened to respecting the point of view of others?

My first thought was cool, funny, but then I thought of how it would feel if someone was giving a donation in my name to an organization I didn't believe in, and that's when I began feeling like it wasn't such a good idea anymore.

On the other hand, if elected Palin is supposed to represent the American people, and this is way of letting her know the opinions of her constituency while also helping Planned Parenthood gain additional funding.

So, I can see both sides of it.

I don't think it is petty and spiteful when you take into consideration that she is out there saying that she represents the women of this country.

I agree that we should respect the right of others to have a different point of view. We do not, however, have to agree with that POV.

More importantly, when you are talking about someone running for one of the highest offices in our country who may have the power to legislate that point of view and thereby make the rest of us live under that POV, it becomes a protest and a statement.

I kind of love this as a way to make a point. One, it indicates some actual meaning, two it hits the recipient with 'hey, people don't agree with me!' and three, it's got a good end result, whether the point is taken or not. PP was invaluable to a friend of mine when I was in boarding school - marching her to a taxi and bundling her in, from the middle of nowhere was pretty much necessary, and without PP, I don't think she'd be at college right now.

My apologies. There are some folks out there (e.g. columnist Nicholas Provenzo) who have questioned Gov. Palin's decision to deliver a baby with Down syndrome. Since Planned Parenthood also supports abortion, I thought you were implying that you agreed.

Absolutely fucking not. I have a couple of friends with a Down's baby, and I'm insulted by the suggestion.

There's a lot you need to learn about Planned Parenthood, if you're laboring under the misapprehension that it's their mission to go around eliminating babies with Down's Syndrome.

Many Planned Parenthood offices provide prenatal care, and Planned Parenthood consistently *supports* prenatal care, making referrals to local obstetricians and midwives as needed. Information about fertility, access to contraception, and good prenatal care are the sorts of things that everyone ought to have, and it disturbs me how they have all become less available in recent years.
