From [livejournal.com profile] knitmeapony: Someone filed an amicus brief in support of Prop 8 on behalf of . . . God. Seriously, the CRAZINESS in this thing has to be seen to be believed. And probably won't be believed even then.

Well that was certainly a concentrated dose of whackadoodle. It's not just the "amicus brief for God" thing, either. 40 pages of either whackadoodle or photocopied Bible pages supposedly supporting the whackadoodle.

"The 'another' Advocate proceeded from the Father, Mariette's natural being, her natural children, and grandchildren reside on land that is solely owned by God in the World Capitol City."

Whack. A. Doodle.

When someone claims to be speaking for God, I edge away slowly. Don't make any sudden moves or noises, you know?

That person has even more delusions of grandeur than those whose vehicles have the bumper sticker "God is my co-pilot." As I've said before, their God is so small.

If God really intended marriage and procreation as strictly one man/one woman we would have had just the two tribes of Israel. Wasn't that how many children Rachel, the "real" wife of Jacob had?

You know, I read her exhibits, and I didn't see anything about marriage in Genesis. Has she not noticed all those unmarried mothers fulfilling God's command to "be fruitful and multiply?"

I also found the Biblical support for her claim to be the third person of the Trinity to be quite entertaining. As I'm sue the California courts will, as well.

Thanks for providing my morning amusement.

I can't get over the idea the fact that she seems to think that arguments from the Bible (sort of) are above legal arguments. Also, in those two verses of Genesis she seems to see God saying a whole bunch that I missed. My copy doesn't seem to say "no abortion" or "no same-sex marriage." If God wanted us to be fruitful and multiply in a specific way, he probably should have specified it, instead of giving us free will.

So, um, women (and men) who are unable to have children should also be barred from getting married?

I find the repeated emphasis on "multiply" to be disturbing. Does that mean we're supposed to have one kid? After all, 1 * 1 = 1 . . .
