We had a pleasant holiday weekend. Ate turkey at my brother-in-law's house. There was family in town (Rob's stepmother came out from Phoenix, and his brother drove up with his girls from Eau Claire, Wisconsin). We did a few things with the family over the course of the weekend--saw "Australia," baked Christmas cookies. I got my office cleaned up a bit so Delia and I can exercise in there again; that felt good. Made a turkey myself Saturday so we could have leftovers. Did some other house clean up, had fun on [livejournal.com profile] hpalternity (really, why aren't you reading it?), read Twilight, and hung out with my family.

Hope you had a good holiday, too.

What did you think of Twilight?

As for [livejournal.com profile] hpalternity - no time, alas. I'm lucky I can keep up with my flist. I'm so glad you have a happy outlet, though.

What did you think of Twilight? I read it over the holiday also, after a co-worker lent it to me.

Total popcorn book, and I was willing to read it on that basis. I'm definitely not going to be one of those middle-aged women who are OMG Edward! I couldn't quite sink into it; I found myself meta-analyzing it more than I like to do when reading; I see the complaints people have about it (Bella's a Mary Sue, feminist issues "you're creepy but I luuuuurrrrvee you because your so beyootiful", etc.) I'll probably try the next, mainly so I can see what people are talking about. And gently mock.

I kinda think my first book was better. Still, I was willing to be amused, and there were parts of it that were fun.

That's pretty much my take.

I read it for two reasons: 1. I was curious to see if the popularity was warranted 2. Someone gave me a copy (and therefore I didn't have to buy one/get it from the library.

I could see all the things people have complained about (Mary Sue characters, etc) but it was still entertaining enough that I finished it. I'm glad I read it because it highlighted some things for me that I don't want to do in my own writing. If someone gives me the next one, I'll probably read that too--but I won't buy it.

And I probably won't see the movie even though I liked the actor when he played Cedric!

Yep, someone had loaned Delia the book, so I didn't have to buy it, either. If I want to read the sequels, I'll undoubtedly check them out of the library.

Fiona read the book, too, by the way, and was rather unimpressed.

Ok, I admit I haven't read Twilight yet, but from everything I've heard, I'm pretty darn sure your first book was better. :)

I must say I'm highly entertained by hpalternity, I love it, and read it everyday! Boot and Hermione break my heart and I must say I do not like Harry Marvolo.

And a belated happy thanksgiving.
