There is something instinctive in me that really really wants to find a nice warm, cosy cave with maybe a few dead leaves on the floor, where I can curl up in a ball and hibernate until spring. Barring that, I want to curl up in bed under my electric blanket with a good book, a pot of tea, a bag of ranch Doritos, and some dark chocolate all within easy reach. Yes, it's that time of the month. Bite me.

I do not want to go to karate tonight. My leg (right knee and hip) is bugging me, which is the excuse I'm using to blow it off.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow. I haven't taken a day off in ever so long. I have to take Delia in to see the doctor early, but then after I drop her off at school, I think I'll call in and take the day off. I'm really feeling cranky and unmotivated. I might do some Christmas shopping (or if I'm really lucky and really inspired, which I doubt I will be) try to take another crack at the holiday letter--nothing so far).

Or I may go back home and go back to bed.

This is pretty unheard of behavior for me, but I really think it's high time I took a day off.

You need a mental health day.

You deserve it.

Although I think a hobbit hole is comfier than a cave.

This is almost verbatim what I was going to post, desire for a hobbit hole included. So Ditto.

*laughs* Oh, of course, a hobbit hole would be infinitely superior--if I could fit inside!

Gandalf could fit inside, and he's tall!

Doritos and chocolate and a warm blankie sound incredibly appealing.

I agree that you should take a day off.

And it's not just because
Barring that, I want to curl up in bed under my electric blanket with a good book, a pot of tea, a bag of ranch Doritos, and some dark chocolate all within easy reach
sounds like *exactly* what I would like to do instead of the 5 or 6 Urgent Important things I have to do in the next 24 hours.

I'm definitely a firm believer in mental health days. Enjoy yours, guilt-free.

Well.... You could call in gay tomorrow. ;-). Hey, do you have a SAD light box? My sister's sending me a portable one for Christmas (I picked a fairly cheap one for her to get me--it's about $50 Amer.) I'll let you know how it works for me, if you'd like.

Yeah, I saw the call in gay tomorrow thing. *laughs* That wasn't my original motivation, but consider it a secondary incentive.

Oh, and I have a light box, but I've been relying more on my daily walks at midmorning on the Stone Arch Bridge.

I'm with you on all of this except the Doritos. And the time of month. One positive thing about getting older and going through menopause is no more of *those* days.

Yes, a mental health day, because in this society, you aren't allowed to call in well.

I just realized that I'm in about my third or fourth mental health years...

I think the occasional mental health day can help prevent a lot of more serious burnout.

I really want to hibernate this time of year as well. Though not in a cave with leaves. I'm a sleep hound at the best of times and this time of year my body wants to sleep and generally lay low.

I took a snow day off today... it was supposed to be a terrible weather/road day today, but it turned out to be fine, but I stayed home anyway. It was lovely and I highly recommend it.
