I started having abdominal pains last night, with some vomiting. I suffered it out through the night, and called the clinic nurse line in the morning. The pain was so bad I couldn't walk, but only crawl, so they told me to go in to ER.

They took me seriously and started an IV to get me re-hydrated and give me morphine for the pain. Eventually, the X-ray and the CAT scans ruled out ovarian cyst and appendicitus. It could have been a kidney stone, it could have been gall stones (they found on the CAT scan that I have some) or it could have merely been a stomach virus. At any rate, after about sixteen hours or so the pain began to ease, so they gave me a prescription for nausea, and sent me home without, thank heavens, opening me up to take out my appendix first. All the same, it was a very expensive day.

No, I did not work out today.

Oh, Peg! Please just get some rest and try to relax! What a horrid day! I'm glad that you got a thorough looking-over at the ER...hopefully these symptoms won't reappear.

Ooh, how awful. I hope you feel better soon. I had gall stones, and it was terribly and intensely painful, so I ache sympathetically for you.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. Having been visited by the Gallstone Fairy myself in the past (as well as by the Ghost of Surgeon Present, thank goodness!), I ache for you... right there in the right side just under the ribs. I hope whatever ails you decides to go right back where it came from, and soon.

*hugs* As a recent gallbladder operatee, your pains sound like what I was going through prior to the op. It sounds like your stones disappeared, though, which is good. Get Rob and the girls to keep an eye on you for a yellowish tinge, though -- that's a sign that they're stuck somewhere in your renal system, which is rather problematic (he understated).

Hope you feel better soon! Love and gentle tummy rubs,

--J

That sounds like what I went through three years ago with my gallstones. If it happens again you insist they look at your gallbladder again and see if that's it because it won't get better unless they get it out. *gentle hugs* Feel better soon!

If they have to take out your gall bladder, they can do it with keyhole surgery and you'll be out of hospital overnight -- that's happened to a few people I know recently. It's one of those things where the tech has improved beyond recognition in the last few years.

As for expense -- I thought Minnesota had something like a sensible health service? Or did I misunderstand something? I just can't emotionally believe that people will pay for doctors, it's like paying to breathe, it's just so clearly wrong I don't see why you all put up with it. You could move to Canada. The cost of living is lower and you could get sick without having to worry about more than your body.

Yowch

I can't say I've ever had it that bad, but I'm no stranger to abdominal/gastrointestinal cramping. It's no fun. I remember one vivid ER session when I was about 15 - 4 hours and then a miraculous clearing of symptoms. At the time, they figured it was probably a bowel obstruction and their prodding and poking was what got everything moving again. But I thought I was going to die. Seriously. Since then, I've been through similar episodes, luckily without vomiting. It's still No Fun. So sorry you had to go through it! Here's hoping it was just a bizarre virus and won't recur for you.

Sorry to hear about your bad day and hope you're feeling better. I also hope you find out what caused the problem. You want to catch a problem before it becomes serious. A friend just had a kidney out; the biopsy was inconclusive, so they just removed the kidney causing the problem.
