I really wracked my brains yesterday, but couldn't think of what to post about that made the world a better place. But then I started thinking again about the stuff I do every day, routinely. I had mentioned taking a lunch in a laptop lunchbox (which I did do yesterday). Then another thought of something I did yesterday occurred to me, and I figured I count it for yesterday as long as I talked about it here. (I'm not sure, really. Do I get to check off my ticky box if I do it every day anyway? Does posting something (belatedly, the next day) along the lines of "here's something YOU might do" count for MY good deed for the day? I started to post about it last night, but I was too tired. Well, I didn't have any thing else, so here goes. I'll count it toward my master list.
I have a product to extoll, and it relates to a charitable opportunity, aiding women in Africa. I used the product yesterday. I didn't do the charitable opportunity, because I just found out that I have to put another $250 - $300 into my car, and I don't have the budget to drop charitable dollars every day. But I'll tell YOU about it, in case you'd like to do so.
Ahem. Boys, this one definitely ISN'T for you. The product is called Party in My Pants. I ran across them while on that Seward Art Crawl a couple months ago, and bought a couple panty liners. I like them quite well. I use tampons during my flow (I'm still waiting for that menstrual cup I'd ordered to try that), but I'd had gotten into the habit of wearing disposable panty liners almost every day when I'm not having my period, but I hated the thought of all that waste and now I have reusable liners that I wash out. Very comfortable and easy. And better for the environment. Read the FAQ here if you have questions.
Give the gift of cloth pads to women in Africa! Party In My Pants is proud to partner with Goods 4 Girls: non-profit group collecting cloth pads and distributing them to women in Africa.
Without access to menstrual products, many African women depend on rags, newspaper, camel skin or nothing at all. Recently, some US manufacturers of disposable products released commercials describing how girls in South Africa miss school when they have their period and how buying their products will help. You can watch these commercial at the following links.
Tampax tampons
Always pads

The chances I'll be the one to spot the suspect or vehicle is low, but you never know, and what's a text message going to cost me? On my plan, nothing. So... even if you're not doing something everyday, you are inspiring other people by your honest effort.

Date: 2009-01-11 03:50 am (UTC)I'll look for Party in My Pants now that I've heard someone else using them and liking them (I need liners for the end of my period). I don't have enough money, or room in my house, for things that I know nothing about beyond a 'ooo, that looks like a good idea' shiny appearance.
there just are not enough opportunities to discuss menstrual cups!

I was able to buy both of these at local stores (in Portland, OR; YMMV) - my food coop in one case, and a women's spirituality bookstore (now closed, alas) in the other.
