I really wracked my brains yesterday, but couldn't think of what to post about that made the world a better place. But then I started thinking again about the stuff I do every day, routinely. I had mentioned taking a lunch in a laptop lunchbox (which I did do yesterday). Then another thought of something I did yesterday occurred to me, and I figured I count it for yesterday as long as I talked about it here. (I'm not sure, really. Do I get to check off my ticky box if I do it every day anyway? Does posting something (belatedly, the next day) along the lines of "here's something YOU might do" count for MY good deed for the day? I started to post about it last night, but I was too tired. Well, I didn't have any thing else, so here goes. I'll count it toward my master list.

I have a product to extoll, and it relates to a charitable opportunity, aiding women in Africa. I used the product yesterday. I didn't do the charitable opportunity, because I just found out that I have to put another $250 - $300 into my car, and I don't have the budget to drop charitable dollars every day. But I'll tell YOU about it, in case you'd like to do so.

Ahem. Boys, this one definitely ISN'T for you. The product is called Party in My Pants. I ran across them while on that Seward Art Crawl a couple months ago, and bought a couple panty liners. I like them quite well. I use tampons during my flow (I'm still waiting for that menstrual cup I'd ordered to try that), but I'd had gotten into the habit of wearing disposable panty liners almost every day when I'm not having my period, but I hated the thought of all that waste and now I have reusable liners that I wash out. Very comfortable and easy. And better for the environment. Read the FAQ here if you have questions.

Give the gift of cloth pads to women in Africa! Party In My Pants is proud to partner with Goods 4 Girls: non-profit group collecting cloth pads and distributing them to women in Africa.
Without access to menstrual products, many African women depend on rags, newspaper, camel skin or nothing at all. Recently, some US manufacturers of disposable products released commercials describing how girls in South Africa miss school when they have their period and how buying their products will help. You can watch these commercial at the following links.

Tampax tampons
Always pads

The Good 4 Girls project was started to help provide young women with menstrual supplies that don't burden their communities with extra waste. Learn more about Good 4 Girls on their website.

You can help by donating cloth pads!! Add a "Goods 4 Girls Donation" to your shopping cart and we'll ship it right to Good 4 Girls. For every 2 pads you donate, Party In My Pants will donate an extra pad. (So, if you donate 4 pads, we will include 2 more at no charge to you.)

Well, I had been waffling on this sort of thing, and having a friend who has specific positive experience bring it up at the right moment was definitely a good thing for my corner of the world. Thanks.

I have just ordered three: one for me (I'm very happy with my Diva cup, but my flow is so light I leave it out at night and could use back up then) and two for girls in Africa. And I gave this URL for "How did you hear about our product?".

I just thought you'd like to hear that your concept of doing something everyday inspired me to do something I normally wouldn't have. I was surfing around and saw a banner ad for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children where you can sign up to get Amber alerts as a text message on your cellphone. And at first I thought "That's a good idea." and went back to surfing.

Then I thought about how you were trying to make things better, so I went back to that page and signed up. The chances I'll be the one to spot the suspect or vehicle is low, but you never know, and what's a text message going to cost me? On my plan, nothing. So... even if you're not doing something everyday, you are inspiring other people by your honest effort.

I know you dismissed it, when talking about your initial plans to decrease worldsuck, but give yourself proper credit for being "a good employee, a good parent, a good citizen". There are plenty of people who are none of those things. Being a good parent has, I think, the biggest impact on worldsuck, as you are helping the next generation to do good as well, and thus spreading your positive influence for years beyond. So - it may not be inspiring to YOU, but if you've comforted a kid, helped them get out the door, taught them something new - it's worth hearing about for those of us who are striving to do the same.

Not that "Party in my Pants" isn't a fantastic idea worth sharing, as well. :D

Okay, I ordered the sample pad from Party In My Pants. :) I only use liners, so cups and stuff are out and I kept putting off finding out if anything else reusable would work for me. So you've ended my procrastination.

I bought a Diva cup last year and while it took some getting used to (make sure all air is expelled *before* removing, ouch), I wouldn't do without it now. I'm glad to hear that other people are using them as it's not the sort of thing that comes up in casual conversation...

I'll look for Party in My Pants now that I've heard someone else using them and liking them (I need liners for the end of my period). I don't have enough money, or room in my house, for things that I know nothing about beyond a 'ooo, that looks like a good idea' shiny appearance.

I've been using the Keeper for 9 years. And I've got a couple of Luna pads in rotation too.

http://www.lunapads.com/

I was able to buy both of these at local stores (in Portland, OR; YMMV) - my food coop in one case, and a women's spirituality bookstore (now closed, alas) in the other.

There are lots of similar companies as well - Luna Pads and Glad Rags come to mind. :) I've heard that donations of menstrual products to women's shelters and prisons are also generally welcome.
