Amazingly uplifting, isn't it? IMHO, the West Wing has the best introductory theme since Bonanza.
What do you call that little piece of a show that plays before the credits start up? Along with all the other things the show does brilliantly, WW does a wonderful job with those. At their best they perfectly encapsulate the theme of the show without giving anything away, pausing at a moment of perfect drama. Then the theme music comes sweeping in from the side, the flag starts waving, and my heart swells. Pretty much every time. Even when I'm watching four episodes in a row from a Netflix disc. Pretty good trick.
Everybody is watching the West Wing these days! I just finished watching the whole seven seasons, and I know of several people who just did or are doing likewise!
Any amount of conversation about West Wing warms my heart. It helped a lot during the dark years. We just rewatched the entire series over the course of the summer, David had given me the set. I may start watching it again. Never enough Josiah Bartlett.:)
The West Wing was much better at predicting the next Democratic president (though it started under Clinton) than 24. Even though the show started out with a black president, the right wingers producing the show started plotting a year ago, before the writer's strike. The Prevailing Wisdom at the time was quite different, and they have a woman as president...
Anyway. I think you're about to get to what may be my favorite TWW episode, the Thanksgiving ep w/Toby's coat.
Oh, btw, if you somehow haven't heard who wins the election on the West Wing, stop watching the video about 5 seconds before it gets to the end, and stop reading the article before it gets to the boldface headline in the middle of the page.
The first season doesn't really get going until about halfway through, with the Supreme Court Justice storyline (Judge Mendoza played by Admiral Adama). A slam-bang season finale sets up a fabulous 2-part opener for Season 2.
Starting with Season 2, it just gets better and better.
Unfortunately, Aaron Sorkin left after Season 4, and the remaining writer/producer(s) took a while to find their feet, but they did. Seasons 6 & 7 leave the White House for long periods in order to focus on the presidential campaign to choose Bartlet's successor, and I missed the ensemble I had gotten to know over up to then; but the second (or was it third) time I watched 6 & 7 they grabbed me a lot more.
I hit the end of season 1 last night at 10 p.m. And of course, after having seen it, I had to watch the first two parts of the next season, so I was up until midnight. o-O. But it was worth it.
