Any local people interested in buying Girl Scout cookies from Delia? Her troop is trying to raise money for a trip to Washington DC this June, and they're gonna need to sell a boatload of cookies to pull it off. (They can't accept donations for the trip, by the way; they can only raise money with sales.)

$3.50 a box, paid upon delivery.

Available: Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Dulce de Leches, Sugar Free Chocolate Chip, Tagalongs, Thin Mints. See descriptions here. Edited to add: and you don't have to worry about the peanut butter in the cookies; thanks to [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K. for the link.

Leave a comment if you're interested by this Wednesday at noon (February 4). And locals? If you wouldn't mind spreading the word in your own journals, that would be great. Thanks!

What I did today to make the world a better place: Did the Care2.com Daily action: read article on necessity of decreasing use of bleach, to avoid dioxin. Purchased some European sponge cloths, as substitutes for paper towels.

Are they really selling the two peanut-butter kinds, after the widespread recall of PB products?

We'll take a Samoas, a Dulce de Leche, and a Thin Mints.

One Thin Mints and one Trefoils, please. Tell Delia that when I was in 6th grade I sold 187 boxes of cookies.

One of the things I miss most about living in the USA is Girl Scout Samoas.

Not being in the area, can I buy some cookies and have her deliver them to a local food bank?

Can you take PayPal (with extra kicked in to cover the fee)?

I rarely use paper towels. Mostly just for draining fried things like bacon. I have a whole lot of rags, dish towels, and dish cloths I use instead. Back in the years when I couldn't afford paper towels I developed other strategies and now they're just habit. I am always surprised how much of our laundry involves squares and rectangles (sheets, towels, table cloths, napkins, kitchen linens, rags..... and so on and so on).

One does need a system for dealing with damp things in the laundry pile, lest mildew spoil some favorite article of clothing.

One of my pet peeves at work is the vast quantity of paper towels we go through in the bathroom. That, and the water we go through. People turn the water on then leave it run down the drain for 20 seconds while they scrub their hands. All our faucets are single handle, you can easily turn them on with the back of your hand when it's time to rinse.

Heck, there are some people who turn the water on to dampen their toothbrushes, then leave it run FULL BLAST for 1 to 2 minutes while they brush their teeth.

Then people pull AT LEAST 2 paper towels to dry their hands. One is sufficient. You don't get your hands bone dry, but you get them dry enough that they air dry within 15 seconds while walking back to your desk.

I swear this is true, I've seen people take SIX paper towels, wipe, wipe, toss. I bet half of them didn't even get wet.

Honestly, I've taken to wiping my hands on my pants to make up for some of these people. Sometimes I take a paper towel to clean my glasses, but then I generally fold it up (it's just a bit damp) and use it the next time I wash my hands.

Sigh.

I'm already on the hook for too many cookies at work, but what can I say - I'm a sucker for the combination of Girl Scout cookies and an even better cause.

Put me down for four boxes of Samoas.

Just to be sure you caught it, I sent you PayPal for 10 boxes, to be delivered to some local food bank, I'm sure you can find a home for them.
