I am writing this post to pass along the story of two local friends, Peter ([livejournal.com profile] jbru) and Ericka ([livejournal.com profile] erickavan) who are facing an increasingly desperate situation. As Peter explains here, he has been out of work since last July, and he and Ericka, who is bedridden with severe health problems, are in imminent danger of losing their home. Their home has been modified to accommodate Ericka, due to her disabilities, and losing it would be a severe blow.

Peter and Ericka are kind and generous people who are truly doing their best, who have extended a helping hand to others over the years (including me). A number of their friends are doing their best to find a way to help them now. There are plans to set up an auction, and there is a community journal set up for them, [livejournal.com profile] accessiblehouse, with more information and a button for PayPal donation. If you can help in either of those areas, or in other ways, please take a minute to do what you can, OK? As [livejournal.com profile] elisem put it, "Even a couple of bucks would really help, both in monetary terms and in the sense of letting them know that other people care about them."

Peter's resume is here (an MS Word document).

Thanks.

I wish I could do more, Peg, but I sent them a little something. J is still out of work and we are hunkering down for a spell, thinking it may just be something we have to wait out.

I will pray for them, for whatever value of praying is acceptable.

Heck, really, I'm praying for us all. :-(

Prayers and thoughts and every little something are all welcome and appreciated.

Having just lost my job today, I can't do anything monetarily and I can't think of anything for the auction. I write, but that's it. All I can do is send good thoughts their way.

Oh, I wish I could help. I feel awful about this.

Your good thoughts are a fine help and well-appreciated. You have mine in return.

Best of luck. I can't help with the job search, but I did offer at least a little something.

I'm so sorry you lost your job. My husband lost his three weeks ago. It's so scary. I wish that the folks in Washington could really see that it's *people* and not statistics. :-(

Good thoughts for you.
