For the first time since last July, Rob is going off to work today. He has a temporary two month job with the U.S. Census.

I hope that reduces your anxiety, at least somewhat, and that Rob finds something enjoyable about the work.

Oh, hurray.

I hope this develops into something a bit longer -- a census job is inherently temporary by its very nature, but it's going to be nearly two years before the census is actually done, yes? Even two months is better than nothing, though.

Yep, if he can get the gig extended, it would be about two years long. Which means the job would end RIGHT when Fiona's about to start college ;-)

That's perfect! She'll get way more financial aid that way. ;-)

Yay! Maybe it'll turn into something a little longer-term, these sorts of temp jobs have a way of doing that.

That's wonderful news. I know that a permanent job would be better, but at least this is a bit of a reprieve. I hope it's interesting work for Rob and a chance to catch your breath for you.

I thought this was good news when you mentioned it to me at that party, and I still think it's good news now. Keep us posted.

Yay! Excellent news. (And I agree with everyone else: lots of possibilities might come out of it.)

Excellent news indeed.

If this is like the temporary job [livejournal.com profile] adrian_turtle has with the Census in Massachusetts, they may turn out to want, or offer, more or fewer hours than they said at first. They may also not have a good grasp of how large the task they're hiring for is, so he might want to take the most hours offered while work is available. (If he's not going to be counting and verifying addresses/number of residential units, this is probably irrelevant.)

Well 2 months is better than not having work for two months, so hopefully he can spend that time either working on getting the job extended for the full 2 years, or finding another job.
