Renaissance Faire
Sep. 20th, 2009 08:15 pmWe started out the day like this:
And then we headed to the festival.
Our first stop was a shop called La Petite Wardrobe. You may remember that we bought Delia's and Fiona's gowns there. (Here are a picture of those gowns from 2007:)
The green gown is getting small on Fiona and Delia had hopelessly outgrown the blue gown. We brought the blue gown back to them, asking whether they might consider buying it back so that we could buy another costume for Delia. We threw in a bodice that we had picked up another year for Fiona, and the owner was perfectly happy to do an even trade. So now we have a new, bigger gown for Delia:
Next, we headed off to Felix Needleworthy's booth so that Fiona could look at bodices. She's been saving up for months. She bought a new reversible bodice and a new chemise. Felix looked at my bodice and estimated that he'd made it for me more than fifteen years ago; he pointed out how he has structurally changed the design. Might I want to try a new one on? I saw how nice Fiona looked in her new bodice, and decided yes. The one he put me in was quite tight, but that's the way it's done. When I looked in the mirror, I'll admit my jaw dropped. The effect was quite, uh, different.
So I bought it.
Fiona then went on an experimental expedition. It was almost absurd, because EVERYTHING she tried on looked absolutely fabulous on her, but of course, she didn't have the money to buy them, after buying the chemise and bodice.
There were, for example, these two leather bodices:
and
"I like leather," Fiona remarked. "And leather likes me."
Boy, does it ever, I thought. "There's something to be said for waiting to make sure you're fully grown before buying a nice leather corset," I said tactfully. Regretfully, she put both corsets back.
Then there was this hat:
She was also quite smitten with this skirt:
Even this outfit, which included lace, which is not her usual thing, couldn't help but look fabulous on her:
Another great hat:
Fiona's friend Corwin joined us for awhile:
(You can see Fiona and Rob there over my shoulder when I snapped this picture in the mirror, saying, "What are you doing? Come on, let's go!")
As you can see, by the end of the day, we looked quite different:
