Sean Astin was definitly robbed. So was Andy, but I didn't really think he was going to get anything. All the same, I'm pleased we've got 11. Here's to us winning some of them.
There is some sort of rule that an actor can only be nominated if it is actually *him* onscreen--and because Andy Serkis was replaced by a CG image, he doesn't really count as an "actor". I personally think that's ridiculous, because *no one*, in any of the other nominated movies *or* LotR, did more work than Andy.
And Sean was definitely robbed. Stupid Academy. Let's just hope LotR gets its just rewards for the categories they *were* nominated for. :)
Yes, technically he *was* onscreen in RotK--however, he was only onscreen for about five minutes or so, and nothing about those five minutes was so extraordinary that he'd get a nomination for that. The rest of the time he was Gollum, a CG image, and that is why he wasn't nominated--it wasn't actually *him* that we see onscreen for most of the movie.
Well I wasn't entirely surprised but you're right, Sean Astin really deserved a nod. He was fantastic in RotK and whilst I was realistic about the likellyhood of Elijah getting a nom. I had really hoped for Sean. Still, 11 is hardly bad.
That's what I've been saying (about Sean Astin)! Can you imagine anyone else doing the job of Sam? Without Astin, the series would have died at the first film, I betcha. Now THAT's Best Supporting Actor.
