Karate internship for Fiona
Apr. 15th, 2010 10:29 pmSince Fiona and I have classes back to back, she hangs in the back of the classroom while I'm taking class. Sometimes, if the numbers are uneven, the instructor will have her come to partner up and hold pads for a student in my class.
Lately, our instructors have been a bit short-handed, and at times we've had only one instructor present instead of two as we usually do, because someone has had to go cover classes at one of the other local schools. So tonight, one of the instructors talked to Fiona about starting a karate internship.
They want her to start assisting with classes, sometimes even taking it over for a period if they need to do work in the office. It's an unpaid internship, but they can trade it for tuition dollars--which means that we'll be able to cut down on the cleaning schedule, which would be a godsend. It also means that they'll be willing to write recommendations for college. Demonstrated leadership skills, etc. Fiona's really excited about it, and we're pleased and proud of her.
