Fiona had to write a short story as a class assignment, which she entitled "The Water Door." Then, inspired no doubt by what she has learned from living in the household of a published novelist, she went a step further: she created a construction paper cover for it and wrote the back cover copy:
"When Madline find the water door of her dad's songs, she is irrisitably curious. Who knows what will happen beyond the door?
. Then she went to four of her friends and had them read it and blurb it:
"A story worthy of publication. Good for anyone who likes librarys" -- Linnea

"A wonderful story for young readers" -- Sydney

"An adventure worth reading!" -- Claire

"A story full of humor and adventure!" -- Anna
I certainly hope that her teacher found this as amusing as I do.

That's adorable, and also shows attention to the final product and presentation.

I hope you're feeling better by now.

That would make me laugh really really hard, except that I have a roommate in here with me.

How brilliant! and she has already learned the valuable lesson that marketing counts for more than ability -

though talent seems to shine through as well. The blurb has worked on me, and the title has me "irrisitably curious" as well. good show.

Heh. My reaction was, "Will she write my synopses for me? I hate writing synopses." But a review would be fine, too.

How would Fiona feel about your posting the story so we can all read it?

Hmm . . . you know, I thought about it, and quite at length, too, but I'm not going to do that. When she's old enough to do a LiveJournal of her own, she can post her own work there, but I think I'd feel more comfortable about keeping the boundaries in place by not posting her work in mine. I'm not sure I can entirely explain it, but it feels sort of like a protective urge on my part, and for now, we'll just leave it at that.

But I think she'll be pleased that you asked!

If the story's at all as good as the presentation -- and I have no doubt that it is -- she's sure to get an A.
