I know now why Frodo sailed into the West. He did it because he had an outbreak of shingles around the Morgul knife wound, and he would have sailed anywhere to get some relief. As would I.

Ow.

I think I'm going to look for a sheepskin to put on my chair at work . I need to put something protective between the seat and my skin. Any idea where I can find one to buy? Maybe an automotive store, because they sometimes sell sheepskin seat covers?

If there's a farmer's market near you, it might be worth a try: there's a sheep farmer who comes to the market in Union Square with meat, wool, slippers and gloves, and sheepskins.

There's a place on the third floor of the MoA that has soft wool rugs at a discount.

If all else fails, you might be able to find something adaptable in a pet store. Most of the sheepskin stuff is shaped into oval beds or covers foam pillows and such, but I *believe* I've seen some just plain sheets of sheepskin.

Good luck, feel better soon.

My father had shingles, on his face - in fact he's got scars, so be warned. Tylenol with codeine helped him ... except for the part about getting off the codeine again. Take care!! I hope it goes away quickly.

I had a sheepskin when Hannah was a baby (she's almost 17, now). I got it as a baby gift, and it was so soft and cushy she wouldn't sleep without it. Maybe you could check at a baby goods store?

Feel better soon, ok? Ouch.

If you can't find a fleece near you, get someone who lives near an IKEA to send you one from there. IKEA sells them for use as area rugs and they are very thick and soft.

Oh, my sympathies are with you. Shingles are terrible. I hope you get some good painkillers. Did they put you on antivirals?

Yes, I am on antivirals. *Grits teeth* But they're not working yet.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've had shingles myself, and I know how insanely painful it is, given the relatively small number of square inches of skin involved.

I hope that, in addition to antivirals, you've been given some serious pain meds. If not, it's appropriate to request them. You shouldn't just have to suffer.

I wore a fleece top (Polar Fleece) and that helped a lot. And, again, I recommend that you try a heating pad. That made all the difference for me - it let me sleep at night and begin to cope during the day. OK, I looked a little stupid walking to work trailing the power cord of the heating pad behind me, and I had to find a plug for it that wouldn't drain a UPS (I work in tech land), but it really, really made it possible for me to not go crazy with the pain.

Medical supply stores used to carry sheepskins; they helped bedridden patients from getting bedsores. They may still be available. Hope you're well soon.
