News from the Front: The Battle Continues
Apr. 2nd, 2004 04:17 pmDelia definitely has the worst case. In fact, it's the worst infestation we've seen, in all our experience of this sort of thing. We did the treatment yesterday, and then Rob and I took turns going over her head, in between bouts of vacumming and loads of laundry. We set up the laptop on the bathroom floor and played Pride and Prejudice, and we've gone through the whole thing--all six hours worth--as we've been going over her head. We still were pulling out live lice today.
Beth (
carbonel) unexpectedly called and then stopped by with a care package. I was beyond touched by her thoughtfulness. She had included all sorts of the comfort stuff I love best: Good Earth Tea, delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies, which I will devour without any speck of guilt whatsoever, and best of all, comfort books: fantasy novels, including one that made me gasp. It was the forthcoming novel in manuscript by Pat Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, (
1crowdedhour), The Grand Tour, sequel to Sorcery and Cecelia! What could possibly be more perfect?
Pat and Caroline and especially Beth, thank you so very much. It is incredible what a difference the kindness of good friends can mean.

Date: 2004-04-02 02:46 pm (UTC)It's wonderful to receive a package like that--it proves not only that someone is thinking of you and loves you, but also that the person knows you well. Beth is a lovely friend, obviously! ^_^

(This is a Japanese word, if you're unfamiliar with it, that loosely translates to "keep fighting the good fight!")

Date: 2004-04-02 03:35 pm (UTC)I've been doing some nearly as tedious nit-picking work and also listening to Pride and Prejudice on CD :) Makes the work go so much easier :)
Yay for good friends and new books! I've taken up a lot more reading lately (sci-fi and fantasy mostly), but books seem too be like crack with me, and once I start a good one, it is so hard to put it down when I need to.

Yes!
Date: 2004-04-04 04:13 pm (UTC)Ugh and Squee!
Date: 2004-04-05 07:51 am (UTC)Squee for The Grand Tour! Must remember to order my very own Sorcery and Cecilia too....
How are you feeling, in all of this? Shingles getting better?
Re: Ugh and Squee!
Date: 2004-04-07 06:58 am (UTC)Well, the good news is that the shingles don't hurt anymore. Instead, they itch. But yes, they are definitely better.
