Everyone go congratulate my best friend, Kij Johnson (gorgeous photo, no?) ([livejournal.com profile] kijjohnson) whose novel Fudoki was just shortlisted for the Tiptree award.

*Happy sigh* All that talent, and beauty, too.

Gee, I didn't know Kij was in Moulin Rouge ;-)

I am SO glad to hear Fudoki was short-listed for the Tiptree. I really loved that book, and I felt it was really affirming for someone who is beginning to feel her years.

Small World

I had the pleasure of meeting Kij at our own small town book store (her folks own it) in Rice Lake, WI a few years back. She was there at the time to promote "The Fox Woman" and to workshop with amateur writers. She visited with me for awhile about the writer's craft, gave me some very sage and helpful advice, and of course signed a copy of her book. She is a wonderful writer and a very nice person who richly deserves to be recognized. Just goes to show you that the writer's community is a rather small world. I wish all the time that I could be just a little closer to the Twin Cities so that I could participate a bit more. I got a small taste of it at Hamline, and felt as though I had really found a niche. Oh well - the price you pay for country livin'! Have a great day, Peg - and thanks for the nice welcome.
