I just read said article which is how I came to know of Alternity. (I was really surprised: I've been reading fanfiction for about 7 years and I haven't heard of HP RPG yet! How can it be...?). I love the Alternity scenario and I was just wondering: what is the best way for a new reader to catch up to the current year? Is there some place which stores áll the entries in chronological order from the beginning, so September 1st, 1st year? The re-cap seems really thorough and indeed goes back to September 1st, but I'd have to constantly go back and forth between links to read them in the right order, and there are a LOT to go through ;). Of course it would be worth it, only it'd be easier to read several story-entries in one tab, the way the current entries are stored. Could you tell me if someone has created such an easy-to-read archive? (Either way, I'm fan already ;))
We do recaps in two different ways. The tags at the bottom of the entries will help you out:
We have weekly recaps (these have two tags: "recaps" and whatever year they are for i.e., "year three", which cover all the posts made in that week).
And we have mega recaps which are done three times a year, which cover really the main plot points. These are tagged "previously on alternity," "recaps" and the year tag, and they have the links to all the "previously on alternity" posts linked at the top.
Our 'years' are counted as September 1st through August 31st. You can start at the very beginning of the game by choosing the 'year one' tab and then looking through the weekly recaps (all entries) or mega recaps, if you just want to see the highlights.
I'm not aware of anyone setting up link clusters on their own. As far as I know, people who want to go back to read the story use the links on alt-fen. Is that clear enough? Let me know if you have any more questions, and thank you SO MUCH for letting us know that you're enjoying the story.
So, if you want to read literally everything, you can go to "year one," go back to the first entry, and work your way forward. If you want to hit the highlights, check the "previously on alternity" posts. Just reading the summaries is a big help to give you an idea of what's going on with the game, but if you want to make sure you catch everything, choose the weekly posts.
