My schedule at Minicon
Apr. 8th, 2004 09:47 amMy panels will all be on Saturday:
2 p.m. The Poetry of Tolkien. I'm quite looking forward to this one, actually. I certainly like and respect my fellow panelists: Ruth Berman, David Lenander, and
pameladean.
3 p.m. How [Not] to Form a Writers Group. I will note, however, that my attendance on this one is the most tentative.
5 p.m. How to Talk to Pros. This one I believe actually grew partly out of a LiveJournal entry I made here, which generated many interesting comments. The other panelists will be one of the con's guests of honor, Sharyn November (
sdn) and Steve Brust.
6 p.m. Taking your Writing to the Next Level. Not quite sure where we'll go with this one, but we'll see!
Edited to add: Forgot to mention: Fiona and Delia will also be making an appearance at Minicon! They will be part of the roundtable discussion that Sharyn November will be holding on books for young readers. Alas, it is scheduled opposite my Tolkien Poetry panel at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, so I'll be missing it myself. Sharyn, we're reading Heart of the Tanglewood out loud right now, which is one of the books you sent us. Fiona read it and loved it, and she chose it for the next read-aloud book, so that Delia could have the pleasure of hearing it, too.

Date: 2004-04-08 08:37 am (UTC)FWIW re: the talking to pros panel:
When I see that someone whose writing I know is doing a reading/signing/chat, I usually try to think of something to ask ahead of time. I find this helps with the fangirl nerves--I don't have to think of something on the spot, and once the answer to the question is completed, it's a less-awkward walking-away point, if needed.
(I also routinely get in signing lines without books, just to say "Hi, I don't have anything to be signed, but I wanted to say that I liked your books." No-one seems to mind, and it might also help fangirl tendencies--don't have to feel like a dork stopping someone in the hallway or cornering them in the elevator.)
Have fun at Minicon! I wish that teleportation were here, cheap, and universally available, because I would *so* be there.
