Virginia has just passed the "Marriage Affirmation Act" and judging from penknife's description, it's absolutely horrifying. This is just. Plain. Wrong.

baylorsr, I'm with you. More and more, I'm ashamed of my own country.

They're anti-marriage. Being pro-marriage as long as they approve of who's in it is... well, the miscegenation laws come to mind, along with other things.

I love my country. I just think we need to start seeing other people.

Y'know, I'm very very very seriously considering moving to Canada. They'd accept me once I'm done with college. I'd have a degree, I'd be able to have money to move there. I could go to Law School there. I keep thinking, hey, I'll go to law school, work for the ACLU, or Lambda Legal, and fix the bad stuff in our country. Now I'm worried that I won't recognize our country when I'm done with law school enough to fix it. Canada could be a definite possibility.

What makes it even worse is that I used to work for the Virginia General Assembly. There are many good men and women down there, but it would seem that the crackpots now outnumber them. Why do we keep electing these people?

Oh, and the wonderful state government that I now work for is pushing for legislation that medical professionals should be able to refuse to care for someone on moral grounds. Prohibited in the bill is discrimination of a patient by age, gender, race or religion. But not sexual orientation. So a doctor could refuse to treat a gay or lesbian person on moral grounds. Nice.
