I didn't go to Convergence because I didn't have the money to pay for a membership.

It turns out I didn't NEED a membership. When she heard my tale of woe, [livejournal.com profile] naomikritzer got me in touch with someone on the convention committee who explained that since I was a former guest of the convention, I had a LIFETIME membership for free to Convergence.

Damn. I wanted so badly to be there, I missed it, and I didn't even need to?!

I feel like an idiot.

But count on me being there next year!

Oh, ouch! I didn't realize you'd been a guest previously; quite a few conventions (including Minicon) do permanent memberships for former guests of honor, and if I'd known I might have asked.

But I'm sure you'll remember next year!

For many years (maybe still), Minicon sent a reminder to all the former GoHs reminding them of this, and asking if they were going to be attending this year (so that a pre-made badge would be ready for them). I am surprised that Convergence is not doing something similar.
