[livejournal.com profile] teasel has written some short essays on visual structuring devices in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies; the essays include side-by-side images of comparable moments from the films, including many that I never saw myself at all, but I gasped out loud when I saw [livejournal.com profile] teasel's pairings and realized, yes, of course!

Highly recommended.

ETA: Link corrected. If that doesn't work, try:

or go to them from the dedicated portion of [livejournal.com profile] teasel's LiveJournal here.

That is very cool. I have it bookmarked to check out in more detail when I have time.

Thanks.

Thanks so much for the rec! I'm glad you enjoyed the essays. You should know though the link you've put up won't work in some browsers. (Short explanation: due to a long-standing dispute between AOL and LJ, LJ automatically converts a-tag links to AOL within posts into FTP links, which some browsers can't handle and which is confusing for everyone.) If people want to see the essays and pictures on my site, this link will work for everybody:

http://members.aol.com/Brumblepop/essays

. . . or they can find them all from a dedicated section in my LJ Memories page here. I'm extremely sorry for the confusion -- it's AOL being a corporate monolith, and yes, I need a real site. Thanks again for the rec!

Thanks! But I'm afraid it's still an FTP link; LJ once again automatically converted the perfectly good link that you typed into an FTP link, because the link was in an A tag. The only way to include a link to AOL from LJ is to type the complete URL into a post as plain text, without making it part of an A tag. When you post the entry, LJ will then convert a plain text URL, and a plain text URL alone, into a live http link to AOL:

http://members.aol.com/Brumblepop/essays

All other ways of linking to AOL from LJ are doomed. It looks very silly and ugly, I know, but that's the only thing that LJ will accept without converting the link. Don't worry about it for my site, but if in the future you want to link from LJ to someone's AOL site, that's the only way to do it.

(All of this is not LJ's fault, incidentally; they're doing their best to work around AOL's demands.)

I'm not familiar with the stories (being one of the few who haven't read the novels or seen the movies) but your essays were still enlightening and well done. Thank you!

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I edited again put the alternate path in the body of the main message. I just want to make sure everybody finds your page!
