I went today to get my hair cut, which I do every three months.

This time, when my hairdresser trimmed the hair at the nape of my neck, she discovered a balding spot about the size of a quarter. It wasn't there three months ago.

"It's a result of stress," she told me. "Dunno why, but I'm seeing a lot more of them among my customers lately."

Well, I don't know about the rest of her customers. But as for me: I was very surprised, but thinking over the past three months...I'm not.

If it's circular, I'd have your doc check for fungus, I had it once, and it took a circular patch of my hair, near the nape of my neck.
