Delia burst into tears when I told her what was for dinner (pork stir fried with peaches and sugar snap peas). Fiona broke something (many shards of glass were involved).

And I was working on the computer when I suddenly heard screams coming from the bathroom. I went in and found Delia, blood pouring out of her nose, crying and screaming in utter panic. I think that she thought she was bleeding to death. I mopped things up (the wastebasket got filled with gory Kleenexes very quickly) and had Rob consult our family medical book, and we got it under control eventually. But it was just a bad night. And I was up too late and so have too little sleep today (*meep*). Hope today goes better.

Well, I must admit, not one of my kids has ever burst into tears when I told them what was for dinner. WHich part of the menu upset her so?

Ah, nosebleeds. Boys seem more prone to them, judging from my experience (brothers and myself, and my kids). One of my sons had them often when he was younger--sometimes in the most inconvenient locales. Since Delia has had one, be sure to keep a box of Kleenex in the car and a wad of it in your purse or other carrying bag (you probably already do that; I seemed to always be caught unprepared)--others may follow.

I wish you all a better day today.

I have no idea. She just didn't like the sound of it, I guess.

Sometimes it's very humbling to try to cook for my family.

Are they old enough that you could assign them the task of cooking dinner for the family once a week?

Oh, been there, felt that. J doesn't like spicy food or onions (though he will tolerate green onions). Or sour cream. Or cream cheese. Or mayonnaise. Or gravy. (Now, I grew up in Southern California--how am I supposed to cook not-spicy and non-onion??????) B has grown tremendously in his willingness to eat different things since he started college, but in his growing-up years he didn't like spicy, he didn't like vegetables, he didn't like pork, I can't remember what all he didn't like. E and P have always been open to almost everything, but E doesn't like hot dogs, and P, it seems, isn't fond of sour cream sauces. (Last week I made what I thought was a really good chicken dish with paprika cream. P, whom I can usually count on to like anything, didn't like it.) R goes through phases. I can pretty much count on my ten fingers the number of dinner dishes that everyone likes.

Because J is actually the fussiest one in the family, it never seemed fair to have a policy that you eat what the cook makes or go hungry. But now that everyone is old enough, the policy is that you eat what the cook makes or make yourself something.

Oh no! My sister used to get nose bleeds all the time when she was younger and still does occasionally now. The key is to keep tissues on hand at all time. ::hugs:: I hope your day is better today.
