I dreamed of Rob last night. Somehow, he came back corporally from the dead, even though he’s cremated. He had white hair instead of that beautiful salt and pepper black. I was so pleased to see him, but at the same time I was thinking, “It’s gonna be so awkward to introduce him to my boyfriend.”

I wish I could remember what we said to each other.

Perhaps you'll have another dream where you can remember the conversation, and find out what your unconscious is working through. *hugs*

On a totally separate note: how are your girls doing these days?

On the few occasions where the dead have visited me in my dreams, I have found it to be a comfort. I remember asking Scott (Imes), "But aren't you dead?" He agreed amiably, but told me it wasn't important, then hugged me. Scott used to give me the best hugs. I will always miss him. I hope Rob visiting you was a comfort, too.

ETA: I should probably add that I don't actually believe in life after death, but I do believe that our memories are powerful and important, and force in the world.

I think it's fairly common to dream of the departed. I recall one I had of Ericka in which she was mightily amused that I and others thought she was dead. She was also miffed in a jolly sort of way that a mutual friend hadn't come to visit since her death. I'm not sure what our brains are up to in these, but if I was to hazard a guess it would be something to do with integrating new situations into familiar routines. That is, matching existing conditions to former patterns.
