OMG [livejournal.com profile] nocturne_alley!

How many of you watched it last night? Did it keep you up as late as it kept me up? Heartbreaking and powerful.

I did, with much wibbling. And it broke my heart, oh, at least twice.

Kudos to N_A for some amazing characters and plot. Wow.

Out of curiosity, which parts that broke your heart were those?

I didn't want to spoil, but...Remus and Pansy. And Lisa, because of Hermoine's post.

I followed the posts mostly through NRaged, and they link an "Oh no" post...which was Sirius's...which wouldn't open, but parts of it came up in the Title of the document and...I just teared up. I couldn't believe it. *whimper*

As for Pansy, it was Malfoy's reaction that did me in. And his note.

What I want to know now is: where the HELL is Dumbledore?

My stomach still hurts, Peg. I've been following...well, the whole time. And that's a long time to be in someone else's head. Even a fictional someone else's head.

And years from now, when I think about it, (because how can you forget something you read for two years) it will always come with a pang, always be a little heartbreak all over again.

It's cruel. And brilliant.

love, lore

I finally went to bed around midnight EDT, then read for a little bit to try to clear NA out of my head. It didn't work - I had VERY strange dreams, at least for the first part of the night.

I haven't caught up yet to see what's been posted since last night. I'm sure it's a lot....

I've actually lost sleep over it for two nights in a row, because Wednesday night I woke up convinced that I'd read about an attack on Hogwarts. I actually got up at 2 am and checked online--of course there was nothing. Then.

OMG indeed. I feel like I have a little bubble over my head that says "wibble", not that anyone at work can see it.

Uh, could someone please clue me in? I clicked on the link and it looks very much like a soap opera set in the Harry Potter Universe, and I am coming in very very late.

NA is an RPG. It's AU now, because of what happened in Book Five, but is basically this: Dumbledore two years ago (I think) told all the students and staff that they would have to start posting in an LJ. NA is basically that--everyone's thoughts on what is happening in their world. Last night several things came to a head, and a lot of people are really upset over what occurred. The only way to really catch on is by reading the friends page.

I laughed at your characterization. Yeah, I guess upon first glance, it looks like a soap opera. That's fair. But what it is really is a group improvization. [livejournal.com profile] nocturne_alley is the group journal, but the individual characters ([livejournal.com profile] potterstinks is Draco Malfoy, [livejournal.com profile] just_harry is Harry Potter, etc.) each have their own journals, too, several dozen in all, and they appear on the friends page of [livejournal.com profile] nocturne_alley. The game is set that only these characters can post to each others' journals, and they act out the Harry Potter books in real time. It's been going on for over two years, but according to the story, it's the seventh year at Hogwarts, so everything's coming to a head.

I think the impact of the writing last night is entirely dependent upon the fact that these players have been building up the characters for over two years, and there is an extensive shared group history. The writers on this game are really good, and they have achieved both moments that are howlingly funny and very sad. Last night, they unleashed the angst fireworks, and it was fun to watch.

The fan community for people who follow Nocturne Alley, where hundreds of people follow and obsessively discuss the game, is [livejournal.com profile] nraged, which is an inside joke: [livejournal.com profile] potterstinks (Draco Malfoy) always makes his entries noting his mood as "Enraged."

Cool, wasn't aware of nraged.
After seeing so many other friends posting about nocturne_alley the last couple days, I went and read.
Wow.

Well, it's never too late to go back to the very beginning of the game and read all the way to the end. There are people have done that!

I've been tempted, but it's hard with the spread-out journals; friends page is easier because it synchs them chronologically.

The players are really impressively good. Epistolary works are a particular skill set.

(And there's nothing wrong with soap opera!)

Afterthought to point you to a link: Here's a pretty good sample of why people liked the writing in [livejournal.com profile] nocturne_alley. Remus Lupin and Sirius Black were a couple, and had formed a family unit with Harry. People really liked their interactions a lot--which is why it hit a lot of people hard when [livejournal.com profile] nocturne_alley killed Remus off this week.

Yes. Or rather, I couldn't stay at the computer, because Uni, but I spent much time lying awake in bed thinking about it. And I committed fanart.

I think there's only one word, and that is wibble (although 'heartbreaking and powerful' also works.)
