pegkerr: (Both the sweet and the bitter)

It didn't work. I need another recipe. This one, again, was oversweetened, and I suspect the lime juice I used wasn't fresh enough. Too much sugar, not enough basil taste.

I may call Sebastian Joe's and see if they'll give me their recipe. Or does anyone have a recipe for it that they've tried that they know is good?

So far the Watermelon sorbet and the Avocado Ice cream have been the best. The strawberry yogurt again was too sweet, and the attempt with the jello instant pudding mix was just sorta eh.

There's a nifty-flavor gourmet ice cream shop that I like, I've meant to tell you about some of their flavors for awhile in case you might like to experiment with them.

They have a lime-cardamom flavor that was FANTASTIC. Very light and sour. They did a cucumber one a few weeks back that I loved. It was so refreshing and...uh, green-tasting is the only term I can think of. Other flavors of theirs I've liked are cantaloupe, buttermint (yum yum) and salted pecan. They also have a lemon-blueberry that's REALLY tart and lemony. My Dad was a big fan of that one.

Ronnybrook Farm, a local(ish, it's upstate) dairy that sells homemade ice cream at its stores, once carried an orange-cardamom flavour. It was heavenly. I never even knew cardamom could taste good sweet! (I normally have it in my curries...) You could try that? =)

Wah! You guys are making me hungry. I love cardamom! I buy the pods and but it in with the coffee when I make drip. Then I dunk Peppridge Farm's Orange Milanos in it.

Have you seen any episodes of "Good Eats?" It's a cooking program on the Food Network that is kind of a cross between Julia Child and Mr. Wizard.

In any case, the host, Alton Brown, did an ice cream episode that had a few recipes, but also, I think, the basic principles about what makes for good ice cream. Armed with that knowledge, one might be able to doctor a recipe to reach the desired results.

You can read a transcript of the episode in questions (titled "Churn Baby Churn") here: http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season1/Churn/ChurnTranscript.htm

If you find the right recipe, can you post it? I love any ice cream/sorbet that uses herbs or spices well. In Paris I had thyme ice cream and basil ice cream, which were very nice on their own.
