I am back at work and Delia is back at daycare (which she was very glad about, as she didn't want to miss the end of the summer cookout). The doctor we saw today thought that, based on the blood tests taken at the time, at least the second episode of fever (when we went to the ER) seemed to be viral, although reoccurrence of high fever three times in two and a half weeks seemed unusual for them all to be separate viral infections. So she had a tentative speculation that it could be something nefarious lurking in her tonsils, although since Delia seems to be on the mend now, and her throat looks okay, she didn't do any further testing today. If the fever reoccurs, we're to bring her in immediately for testing. A second, more distant possibility is one of the tick-borne illnesses, either Lyme or Ehrlichiosis (she'd tested negative for both of them, but false negatives are common at the beginning of the infection).

For now, we're keeping our fingers crossed that she'll stay healthy.

Phew.

I hope this remains an unsolved and unrecurring mystery.

I was sick constantly as a child, often with high fevers and just feeling miserable without much in the way of other symptoms, and we eventually found my problem to be allergic reactions. It turned out that I got sick every time I bathed my dog with a certain shampoo (Sulfodene), or when I played with the neighbor's cat (which wore a flea collar), or anytime my mother sprayed Lysol in a part of the house where I was, or when I came in contact with certain chemicals. The reaction was often delayed by several hours (except to Lysol, it makes me sick the moment I smell it, awful headaches and nausea), so it was harder to figure out what was causing it all.

The point of me telling you all of this was to ask if Delia's fevers occurred within twelve to twenty-four hours after her hair had to be treated for nits... If so, then I was thinking they could possibly be a reaction to the chemicals in the shampoo. If not, then I just wasted your time. *wry look*

Regardless, she's been in my thoughts, and there are a lot of healing vibes on the way from east Texas.

It's worth thinking about, of course, but no, it doesn't track timewise. The first fever showed up before we knew she had lice, and the second and third before we did the treatments.

Ah well, I thought it might be worth a try. *wry look* Took years for me to connect all of my allergies with what caused them, and the things Delia's been going through are familiar results of my own allergies. I'm one of those unlucky people who develops allergies over time, so I often find I'm allergic to something I had no problem with even a few months before.

Lots of healing vibes are still on the way!

I'll second that on allergies. It could also be a food allergy. I still react to some stuff and some day I may tell you about Christine and her "pea problem" at nursey school. The good thing is that sometimes kids grow out of, or get desensitized to many of their allergies as adults.

If the fevers continue, a food diary might be in order and a record of contact stuff like shampoos, sprays, perfumes and such. I changed to a certain laundry detergent, which shall remain nameless, one time out in San Jose, and I broke out everywhere my underpants and bra touched my skin. When I went back to the one I used before the rash went away.

Let's hope it is something simple like two viruses and never recurrs! I am ever so glad that Delia is feeling better now.

I've never heard of an allergy prompting a fever of 105. Nevertheless, she didn't have any of the breathing problems you might associate with allergies, and the rash wasn't like an allergic rash, either (I've had both myself).

We're ALL glad that she's feeling better.
