In a weak moment, when my new church was scratching around for topics for the adult Sunday education hour, I offered to do a presentation based on the paper I presented at Nimbus 2003. The title of the paper is "The Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Heavenly Virtues: Moral Development in Harry Potter." It would be at 9:15 a.m. (for an hour) at a church in south Minneapolis. I will probably not be going as in-depth as I did at Nimbus, but will be arguing, essentially, that the HP books are a fictional account of the attainment of a moral education. If you think you might be interested in attending, e-mail me for further details. (Oh, and if you're in the Twin Cities and want to be added to my Twin Cities filter and you think I might not know that, drop me a comment.)

Bookplates again
Oct. 11th, 2005 09:41 pmRob apparently handed quite a few autographed bookplates out at The Witching Hour. If you weren't there and would like one, send a self-addressed, stamped return envelope to:
Peg Kerr
P.O. Box 2128
Loop Station
Minneapolis, MN 55402
Let me know if you want a book plate of Emerald House Rising, The Wild Swans, or both.

Argh, clutter
Oct. 11th, 2005 09:58 pmThe dojo is going to be closed for construction this weekend, while everyone is at the Diamond National Tournament. Sensei decided to clean out the old trophies, so he set up a sparring class tournament and handed them out to the kids.
Fiona won first place in the sparring class and brought an old trophy home that someone else won at the Diamond Nationals five years ago. The thing is a friggin' five feet tall. Where the hell am I supposed to put this???
No love, Sensei.
