Here's my Brazen Shameless Hussy moment: [livejournal.com profile] bookworms_inc is going to be discussing The Wild Swans for the month of March. Join the community and have it read by March 15, and the second half of the month people will discuss it. See entry here. I'm happy to answer any questions people may have.

Here's a Brazen Shameless Hussy moment: A friend just e-mailed me with a total day-brightener. To my absolute astonishment, someone pledged $500 to honor ME by endowing a chair in my name in the auditorium at the new Minneapolis library! The money will be used to buy new books. I think I recognize the name of the donor as someone I met in graduate school. This is a campaign to recognize and honor Minneapolis authors. Read about it here. They are still collecting names and money to honor other Minnesota writers. One hundred and forty-four chairs have been fully endowed, and they still have 81 openings. A list of other potential honorees that have been suggested is included; their chairs can be added if anyone pledges the money. Contributions are tax-deductible. A number of my friends are on that list. Hey, could we scrape up the money to honor [livejournal.com profile] pameladean or Lois McMaster Bujold? Or add Eleanor Arnason or [livejournal.com profile] naomikritzer to the list?

(Gah. That's my name there. Right under Garrison Keillor's. Wow.)

Edited to add They're trying to get a campaign up and running to raise money for other Minnesota writers at [livejournal.com profile] mnstf here.

For those of you who sent me envelopes requesting bookplates: I attempted to print them out this weekend, but my ink cartridge is low on blue ink, and so the quality is bad. When it runs out entirely, I will change the cartridge and then will be able to print them out. Not sure how long this will take. I must presume on your patience a bit longer; sorry for the delay.

Rob apparently handed quite a few autographed bookplates out at The Witching Hour. If you weren't there and would like one, send a self-addressed, stamped return envelope to:

Let me know if you want a book plate of Emerald House Rising, The Wild Swans, or both.

In a weak moment, when my new church was scratching around for topics for the adult Sunday education hour, I offered to do a presentation based on the paper I presented at Nimbus 2003. The title of the paper is "The Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Heavenly Virtues: Moral Development in Harry Potter." It would be at 9:15 a.m. (for an hour) at a church in south Minneapolis. I will probably not be going as in-depth as I did at Nimbus, but will be arguing, essentially, that the HP books are a fictional account of the attainment of a moral education. If you think you might be interested in attending, e-mail me for further details. (Oh, and if you're in the Twin Cities and want to be added to my Twin Cities filter and you think I might not know that, drop me a comment.)

Here. [livejournal.com profile] scott_lynch arranged it, bless his heart. And his kind words here made me cry.

Nice way to start the day.

It occurs to me with some chagrin that I really should have said something early about the appearance I'm going to be making tomorrow at the University of Minnesota for a panel on the Harry Potter books. Not that I under the illusion that mentioning it in this LiveJournal will cause hordes to show up, you understand, but still . . . every little bit of publicity helps. Here's the press release with the information about where and when. )
(Man, am I a publicity ninny.)
