Have you tried the rubbing alcohol preventive? That is, putting some behind ears and at back of neck several days in a row, which totally dries out any possibly tiny nits you didn't see. And it's non-toxic.
A much beleagured mom told me about this, said it kept her daughter lice-free after she found out about it, despite many rounds at their school.
I found lice on Chris once and immediately cut both of my girls hair short and refused to allow them to wear it below their collars until they were Sophmores in High School!! It was EXTREME and they got angry, but it stopped the lice problem. Where we lived, there was no really cold weather to put a halt to the little beasties.
Did you consider the matt she sleeps on in preschool may be the problem? Do they do any activities where they play "dress up" as with hats and gloves and such at preschool? (I think I remember your saying she went to a preschool) If so you will never get rid of the problem as long as they don't change the stuff. ( Just the thought of lice has my head itching! LOL I hate those little critters almost as much as I hate yellow flies and the biting ants we have down here!! ) l
Oh, she's older than preschool. She's eight years old and will be starting in third grade this fall. She's been going to the YMCA summer program.
We've been through lice so many times that they know all the warnings about not sharing hats, combs, etc. I do suspect that Delia picked up at horseback riding camp however. The camp provided helmets which were mandatory for them to wear, and I'll bet that they didn't clean them every night, either. A very easy way to spread lice.
BINGO!! I thought she was a bit precocious for a four year old! LOL I just figured she was super, super smart!!
Oh, and warn the girls to check out drinking fountains at public places for the nasty little beasties! They seemed to like them at both my girls schools. Eeuuh! was the comment I got about the school drinking fountain when Chris discovered its "special" inhabitants.
Now my girls are grown, Chris with three children of her own, aged 8, 6 and 3. The 8 year old is a girl and the other two boys. It is hard to realize that Chris will be 40 her next birthday! Linda, on the other hand, has survived brain surgery and, though still single, is living a very interesting life out in the San Francisco Bay Area at the ripe old age of 43.
It seems just yesterday that I was combing the nits from both of their heads. All of their beautiful long hair lay on the newspaper on the patio stones and all three of us had tears streaming down our cheeks.
Now both Christine and I have hair down to at least the middle of our backs. Linda's, last time I saw her, is still short.
I haven't seen Chris in two years. For Linda it has been about ten years. The money to travel to the coast just hasn't been there for either of us.
Linda says she is coming here next year for my mother's 90th birthday. I keep in touch with her through our live journals. Chris reads them too, but doesn't have one of her own. Her husband is an editor for Christianity Today<\i>. That means they keep a really low profile as the muslim terrorists have let it be known that they know who they are. Thus Chris and Stan fear for the safety of their children and have requested that I not put pictures of my beautiful grandchilren, or their parents for that matter, on the net or tell people where they live. I find that sad, but I respect their wishes too.
