I dreamed that there was a waterleak inside the walls of the house, and that torrential rains had worsened the problem. Rot was starting to spread, and a support beam was sagging. The whole dream had a sense of creeping dread.

It feels like a lot of worries sort of jumbled together: the upcoming election and the state of the nation. The rain feels like something insiduous that can't be stopped: again, terrorism, the cancer in American society due to fear.

It puts my state of mind into a metaphor. How do I deal with these fears? How to stop the waterleak, get rid of the rot, repair the house and make it sound again?

I'm afraid we're perilously close to demolishing the house and having to start over.

It's a grand old house, though, isn't it? Gad, what I would do -- and what so many people would do -- to salvage it. There are ways and ways, but only if the foundation is still sound, and if we can get to the roof before things inside get irredeemably wet and rotten. Because we seriously have some leaks.

Oh yes. I love this house. The current upstairs tenant is insane, though. He's breeding termites in the walls.

Yeah, and he and his partiers keep trampling up and down the halls above our heads like elephants. Lots of sleepless nights, and no responsive police to call.
