Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] klig:

Okay, the Bushies are all but saying that God is on their side. Is it true? Well, let's check out the paths of recent hurricanes through the state of Florida.

(Caveat: This is totally unfair and in bad taste, but nevertheless extremely interesting.)

Edited to add: And untrue. The map has been debunked, here. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha B for drawing it to my attention!

I think that foot-high letters of blood (VOTE KERRY) in various key houses in those vicinities would be sufficient, but deities are all drama queens, aren't they?

on the day that i heard that Ivan was on the loose, i said out loud, "what is up with the destruction of Florida?" in a kind of stuuned amazement.

My roommate replied, "God hates election cheaters?"

I have to email him this.

Assuming He's omniscient, you don't have to email Him anything.

It is quite poor taste (says the jaguar who lives in Florida).

It also displays a remarkable lack of understanding of the size of hurricanes. When you plot the paths of storms the size of the state, saying that anyone missed it because they were a couple of miles over in the next county is ridiculous.

Yes, I know, which is why I added the caveat.

I would also complain that the track on Charley is wrong -- it went through the middle of Desoto and Hardee, and swiped the eastern side of Polk County, as well as hitting Orange County. My parents and grandparents (Hardee), sister (Polk) and brother (Orange) all got hit. But since Orange is a blue county (how Gator of them?) the track was bumped west slightly so that the "joke" would remain intact.

However, I admit, I laughed. Because we've all muttered the same thing. And I live in Florida too.

Caveat aside, that's really amusing.

Of course, if we knew the *actual* vote totals....

I saw the Florida hurricanes alluded to in a Jewish comm on lj, except that this speaker noted that each hit on a Jewish holiday, so it must be G-d's way of telling people to be observant and turn off their electricity.

Your "bad taste" is much more amusing to me, in a completely biased way. ;-)

My grandmother, who is as devout a Democrat as they come, was sincerely hoping that Ivan would hit Texas just for this reason: If Bush was going to claim that God was on his side, then he could have the hurricanes hit his states.

Well, I live in Duval, and Charley didn't come through here. So I don't think he's got the hurricane paths quite right.

Not true, however. First, hurricanes are a lot bigger than that wiggly Frances line. Second, it just looked like something made up, so I looked on Snopes:

Ah, well. So much for God's reputation for prompt action, I guess. (Hey, it's been almost four years since those gullible citizens transgressed.)

Actually, I think the map tracks where the eyes went, not the area covered by hurricane-force winds, as those extended about 90 miles from the eyewall for Frances (although Charley was much smaller in that context). I'd love to see what Snopes has to say about that - I mean, here in Miami people lost trees - my parents did! - but we didn't get any hurricane-force winds.
