naomikritzer's suggestion that Jack might charm Ingrid by quickly folding an origami animal for her. That works with one of the few things I know about Jack, as a winter magic practitioner--besides being an architect, he's a forms-shaper, a sculpter. He carves soap, ice, whatever is handy.
At one point in the book, he will make a snowman to watch over Solveig while she sleeps to protect her.
