I went to Tim Powers' signing at Dreamhaven last night, and spoke with him and Serena for about a half hour. They had somewhere to go after the signing, and I had the girls in tow and had to get them home and into bed, so we couldn't adjourn afterwards, unfortunately. I gave Tim the rough draft of the interview questions I posted here earlier, but after snooping some more on the web, and finding a lengthy beautiful interview on this site, I am suffering a crisis of confidence. Tim will be charming and articulate, I'm sure, but I hope I don't make a fool of myself. Odd--I'm really past the point where I get nerves about speaking at conventions, ordinarily. It's so strange to be nervous about this interview, where, after all, I'm not answering the questions but only asking them.

Tim was pleased to see me, which was gratifying, and we agreed to try to get away for a good chat while at the convention; I must admit I'm hoping I'll be able to join him and Serena for dinner tonight. It's a crushing blow that I won't be able to be at the convention any more than tonight. Once again, Rob's working all weekend which means I'm in charge of the girls, and aside the fact that they would be bored if I took them, I don't particularly feel comfortable bringing them to this con, as it's generally more of a horror-oriented convention. Delia mentioned yesterday that she doesn't like going to Dreamhaven, "because they have all those pictures of Frankenstein and Dracula." A horror con would be too much for her.

Do you ever get a -- well, the girls would hate the term "babysitter," so a -- companion, that's it, an older companion to supervise the girls while you get away?

Yes, occasionally, but the problem is the girls have several things I have to truck them today tomorrow. There's a girl scout organizational meeting at 10:00 a.m., and they have a karate drill at 3:00 p.m., a very important one since they're testing for their belt Tuesday. So it's not really convenient to hand them off to a babysitter. Unfortunately, the panel I really wanted to go to tomorrow at the convention is 11:00 a.m. Argh.
